Job summary

The City of Katy is seeking a Maintenance Worker in the Streets Department to perform general landscaping duties and support city operations. You will trim trees and bushes, mow and edge grass, clean gutters, and help with debris removal.

Responsibilities also include participating in emergency responses, posting signs, and conducting traffic control as needed. A valid driver’s license is required; the role is considered essential during disasters.

The City of Katy is accepting applications and resumes for the position of Maintenance Worker for our Streets Department.

SUMMARY:

Performs general landscaping duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Trims trees and bushes; cleans gutters; mows and edges grass; applies fertilizer and mulch; sprays weeds; collects trash.
• Participates in City-wide emergency response; clears debris from accidents and weather events; posts advisory and warning signs, conducts traffic control as necessary.
• This position is considered Critical Personnel during a natural or manmade disaster and/or a catastrophic event. This position may be required to provide services or perform duties for the benefit of the public and the continuity of City operations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of this position.
• For purposes of business continuity, employees in this position are considered Essential Critical Infrastructure Workers, as defined by the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).
• Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE GUIDELINES:

High school diploma or equivalent; AND one (1) year of general maintenance experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Driver’s License is required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

• Operating basic landscaping equipment.
• Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
• Following instructions.
• Understanding of landscape irrigation systems, including repair, service and/or installation, preferred.
• Safety policies, procedures, and practices.
