Job summary

City of Montebello is seeking a flexible grounds maintenance worker to perform unskilled to semi-skilled tasks across parks, golf course, and facilities. You will operate mowers, edgers, weed whackers, and other equipment, assisting with weed abatement and general upkeep.

Shifts include nights and weekends and may vary by department needs. Prior experience in maintenance and safe work practices is preferred. This position supports city facilities and public spaces with hands-on labor.

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision to perform a variety of unskilled to semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of City facilities from parks and recreational areas to building, facilities, janitorial assignments, streets and sewers; operate appropriate equipment; and to perform other job-related work as required.

CANDIDATES MUST BE AVAILABLE FOR

NIGHT AND WEEKEND SHIFTS, AND SHIFTS MAY VARY BASED ON THE NEEDS OF THE DEPARTMENT.

Performs a variety of unskilled manual to semi-skilled tasks involving the maintenance, repair, cleaning and upkeep of City parks, golf course, recreational and sports areas, buildings, facilities and assist with same for streets and sewer maintenance; assists in basic park and building maintenance tasks such as weed abatement, janitorial maintenance and duties, raking leaves, tree and shrub pruning, etc.; uses basic and power driven tools and maintenance equipment including mowers, edgers, weed-whackers, pruners, small riding equipment, and light trucks; cleans same tools and equipment; performs manual labor such as loading and unloading materials into trucks, and moving and arranging furniture; may open/close and clean restroom facilities and other buildings; may maintain basic records of work performed and materials used; may assist in controlling traffic in the vicinity of work assignments; may perform some skilled maintenance and repair tasks in a training and learning capacity; reports any breakage and the need for complicated adjustments or repairs; may be required to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays.

Work Background

Prior experience performing grounds and landscaping maintenance tasks, heavy manual labor, and the operation of power-drivenand motorized equipment used in general maintenance and repair is desirable.

Knowledge of

• General tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair and landscape work.


• Operation and maintenance of power driven hand tools and light vehicles including mowers, edgers, and other landscape maintenance equipment.


• Safe work practices.

• Learn and perform general public works maintenance assignments.


• Perform a variety of heavy, physical labor involving strength, dexterity and coordination.
