Job summary

The City of Kirksville is seeking Seasonal Park Maintenance workers to perform a variety of grounds and facility maintenance tasks in parks, recreation spaces, and cemetery areas. Duties include operating mowers and small equipment, pruning trees and shrubs, planting beds, and mulching, along with routine vehicle maintenance.

Responsibilities extend to maintaining turf care equipment, sprinklers, irrigation systems, responding to leaks and facility issues, and keeping restrooms clean.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in related field (carpentry, general mechanics) or equivalent education/experience.
• Experience with maintenance of parks and recreation facilities is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Maintain parks and public green spaces and facilities, including cemetery areas.
• Operate mowers, tractor and other small equipment and tools for mowing and trimming grass, pruning trees and shrubs, planting and mulching flower beds.
• Perform routine maintenance on motor equipment and vehicles; assist with repairs as needed.
• Maintain turf care equipment, pumps, sprinklers, irrigation systems.
• Respond to water leaks, clogged toilets, vandalism, and other issues in park facilities.
• Clean and maintain restrooms; collect and dispose of trash; inspect facilities for hazards.

Job description

Seasonal Park Maintenance workers performs a variety of tasks in the maintenance or Parks and Recreation grounds and facilities. Maintains parks and public green spaces including Forest / Llewellyn Cemetery. Operate mowers, tractor and other small equipment and tools necessary for the mowing and trimming of grass, pruning of trees and shrubs, planting and mulching of flower beds.

• Maintains assigned motor equipment and automotive vehicles with regard to fueling, routine maintenance, and most light to moderate mechanical repairs.
• Maintains and adjusts specialized turf care equipment and tools, including electric motors, pumps, sprinklers, tractors, mowers, and irrigation systems.
• Responds water leaks, plugged toilets, vandalism and other issues with the various amenities associated with the parks and recreation grounds.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of parks’ amenities and fixtures including restrooms. Collects and of disposes of trash from buildings and grounds. Inspects facilities for hazards and notifies supervisor of any problems.
• Performs semiskilled interior building maintenance such as painting, plumbing, carpentry, and other semiskilled trades work.
• Performs other duties as assigned to assist with the operation of the Parks and Recreation Department programs and events.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent, and two years’ experience in related field (carpentry, general mechanics). Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
