City of Farmers Branch is seeking a motivated labor position to perform manual maintenance work across divisions, including parks and facilities, and to support special events. The role requires basic education and several years of related experience, with strong safety awareness and ability to operate/repair basic equipment.
Work outdoors in varying weather, with potential for weekend shifts and flexible hours. Training provided; candidates must pass background checks as required.
Target Hiring Range: $19.45 - $21.61
The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor within assigned division. Depending on area of assignment may be responsible for maintenance and parks, landscaped grounds, playgrounds, facilities, special events, and/or construction projects.
Performs semi-skilled and skilled tasks including installations, inspections, repairs and maintenance at assigned locations. Performs special winter work projects.
Operates, maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs of various equipment including hand and mechanical tools and motorized equipment.
Sets up work zones as appropriate and ensures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times.
Provides general maintenance support to special events.
Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes.
8th grade education and 5 years experience required in a similar field, OR high school diploma or GED equivalency
Over one year up to and including three years of experience is preferred.
Non CDL Applicants - Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor vehicle review.
CDL Applicants - Employment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, and must pass a DOT-regulated drug/alcohol test and successfully complete the FMCSA Clearinghouse background check process.
Work requires regular interaction involving exchange and receipt of information.
This position normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. The immediate supervisor may, at times, provide close and constant review.
Work requires the use of standard technical skills appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
Basic ability to recognize meaning of common two or three syllable words and to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or a series of numbers, names, and addresses. Intermediate ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement.
Ability to learn geography of City including major streets and landmarks.
Ability and willingness to work flexible hours, holidays and weekends as needed. Subject to “stand by" duty.

Must possess a valid Texas class "C" driver's license or higher with good driving record and ability to maintain while employed.
