MAINTENANCE WORKER I

Job Summary

This position performs a variety of semi-skilled manual tasks under direct supervision of a Foreman, Lead Worker, or other higher level classified employees. Duties may involve use of hand and power tools and the operation of light truck and construction equipment as part of the assignment. Duties may be performed under adverse weather or working conditions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Performs yard maintenance such as cutting grass, edging, weeding, laying sod, spreading grass seed and fertilizing.

• Other duties include: unskilled painting, cleaning and patching potholes, removing dirt and grease from vehicles, assisting in concrete work, spraying for insects, changing tires, servicing automotive equipment, cleaning ditches, and digging excavations.

• Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) from an U.S. Department of Education accredited institution is preferred.
• Irrigation and tree trim/grounds cleanup experience is desired.
• An equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered for minimum requirements.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

• Possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record is required.

Working in or with moving vehicles and/or equipment may be required as well as working from heights, in dusty condition, with hands, feet, and/or legs in water and may handle chemicals.
