Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in various divisions throughout the City.

Assigned Departments:
- Grounds Maintenance – Maintains other open area grounds within the City.
- Landscaping – Installation, maintenance, and removal of trees and landscaping; Pesticide application.
- Ability to work independently:
- Knowledge of the appropriate skilled trades associated with assigned department;
- Knowledge in using hand and power tools in construction and maintenance work;
- Knowledge of methods and practices used in performing skilled building maintenance;
- Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, and repair of relevant equipment;
- Knowledge of the elements of construction technology as they relate to the assigned construction, maintenance, and repair activities;
- Skill in performing manual work requiring periods of extensive physical exertion and potential exposure to adverse weather conditions;
- Skill in reading schematics and follow written instructions;
- Skill in communicating effectively orally and in writing including tactful and courteous communications with the public;
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, other city personnel and the public.
- High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred;
- Valid driver’s license;
- This role includes a condition of continued employment as stated below. Upon successful completion, the employee may be promoted to Maintenance Worker II. Failure to meet the conditions of employment may result in termination of employment.
- When assigned to Grounds Maintenance or Landscaping: Must have a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or obtain a Learner’s Permit within 6 months of hire; or obtain a pesticide certification within 6 months of hire.
