Job summary

City of Forest Park in West Virginia is looking for an entry-level maintenance worker to support general maintenance on streets, signs, storm sewers, right-of-way, and City parks with daily assignments from the Assistant Public Works Director.

You may operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader, and tractors with loaders or mowing attachments. Requires a High School diploma and the ability to obtain a CDL-B within one year.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read maintenance instructions and complete simple forms.
• Must obtain CDL-Class B within one year of hire; City will train if needed.
• Ability to drive at night with no restrictions.
• Must be insurable by City's insurer if driving.

Job description

Entry level maintenance worker that reports to the Assistant Public Works Director and receives daily assignments consisting of general maintenance labor and operation of light duty equipment.

1. Performs general maintenance work on streets, traffic signs, storm sewers, right-of-way clean-up and mowing, and City parks.
2. May operate dump trucks with snow plow and salt spreader, and tractor with end loader as necessitated by weather conditions.
3. May operate tractor with mowing attachments.
4. Performs daily preventive maintenance on equipment he/she is to operate.
5. Performs related work and other duties as required and assigned.

1. General knowledge of construction procedures with respect to street maintenance and repair.
2. Thorough knowledge of the State laws pertaining to the operation of motor vehicles on the highways.
3. Necessary knowledge to perform routine maintenance on equipment he/she is operating.
4. Skill and care in the operation of motor vehicles.
5. Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
6. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
7. Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods and at times under adverse weather or working conditions.
8. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds with no restrictions.
9. Ability to respond to emergency situations at any time, day or night, with no restrictions.
