Job summary

City of Auburn (AL) seeks a Maintenance Worker-Facilities to maintain city facilities and support grounds, plumbing, electrical, carpentry and related mechanical systems. This is a full-time role reporting to the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and perform maintenance on facilities and equipment.
  • Perform grounds maintenance for city properties.
  • Carry out minor repairs in plumbing, electrical, carpentry and mechanical systems.
  • Clean and maintain city facilities to a safe standard.
  • Operate tools and equipment safely and efficiently.

MAINTENANCE WORKER-FACILITIES

Department: Public Works

Pay Grade: 107

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Personnel Status: Regular Full-Time

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the maintenance of the City of Auburn's facilities. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Coordinator.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs troubleshooting and maintenance duties related to facilities maintenance.
  • Performs grounds maintenance duties.
  • Performs minor repair and maintenance duties related to plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems.
  • Performs cleaning duties at city facilities.
  • Performs facilities maintenance duties through use of various tools and equipment.
  • Performs other related job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) to two (2) years' experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Qualifications
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Alabama Class B Commercial Driver's License within six months of employment.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a Class C UST Operator Certificate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of City and department policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of carpentry, masonry, and painting.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety regulations, practices and procedures used in equipment and facilities maintenance.
  • Knowledge of local government operations, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a wide variety of hand tools and specialized equipment.
  • Skill in performing basic mathematical calculations, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  • Skill in decision-making and problem-solving.
  • Skill in effective communication, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is medium work, which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, or walking. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring manual dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed in various indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
