Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance (interior/exterior) of Dutchess/Ulster residences, farm, sites, and Admin Office.
  • Oversee contracted maintenance services with outside companies.
  • Ensure environment complies with State/Federal regulations.
  • Provide 24-hour emergency on-call rotation for maintenance issues.
  • Perform related maintenance tasks including heating/AC, lighting, fire alarms, appliances, and painting.

Description

Under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Management, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall maintenance (interior/exterior of the Dutchess/Ulster residences, supported sites and Administrative Offices).

Schedule is Monday thru Friday 7am-3:30pm. Some flexibility may be needed on occasions.

Requirements
Essential skills and Experience:
  • Prior experience performing maintenance work/equipment repair and the ability to engage in physical activity associated with successful performance of maintenance work/ equipment repair.
  • Skills in the area of grounds maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical.
  • Working knowledge of tools and machinery.
  • Prepare and submit documentation of routine maintenance projects as needed.
  • Preventative Maintenance Planning- assessment and action to complete any task which is identified to improve safety or homelike atmosphere of each residence. Examples would include repair of chairs, tables, curtain rods, etc. and review of safety reports.
  • Ability to coordinate necessary outside services.
  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with others including the individuals served, staff and outside service providers.
  • Ability to represent NHR in a professional manner when dealing with outside contractors and other members of the broader community.
  • Ability to use sound judgment while following agency policies, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English which allows full communication and participation with agency staff and government visitors.
  • Possess a high school graduate ( or equivalent) and three years evaluated experience in the maintenance field.
  • Possess a valid driver license with a driving record acceptable to NHR’s insurance carrier and possess the ability to drive agency vehicles.
  • Successful completion of pertinent New Horizon Resources agency training. (Specifically, you are required to complete NHR orientation, first Aid, CPR, Rights & Abuse, Corporate Compliance and Defensive Driving classes.)
Nonessential Skills and Experience:
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties associated with this position, an employee (using approved agency techniques) will be called upon to engage in physical activity associated with maintenance work, including but not limited to: standing; walking; sitting; using hands (or hands and arms) to carry, lift, finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reaching with hands and arms; climbing stairs; balancing; stooping; crouching and kneeling. Employees will also be regularly required to hear (with or without hearing devices), see (with or without corrective lenses) and speak.. Must have strength and agility to lift and transport machinery up to 50 lbs.

Working Conditions and Environment:
  • While performing the duties associated with this position, an employee will be in a primarily residential environment; on agency grounds; in a van or other vehicle; or, in the community at large.
  • This position will at times require an employee to provide emergency coverage including holidays and weekends.
  • This position may expose employees to inclement weather.
  • This position may expose employees to chemicals associated with maintenance work including but not limited to paint, cleaning agents, etc.
  • This position may expose employees to blood borne pathogens.
  • This position may expose employees to the profanity and offensive/violent behavior of individuals served
Summary

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform overall maintenance (interior/ exterior) of the Dutchess/Ulster County residences, farm, support sites and Administrative Office.
  • Overseeing of contracted maintenance service with outside companies.
  • Ensuring physical environment is maintained in compliance with State/Federal Regulations.
  • 24-hour emergency on-call rotation for maintenance problems.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
