Description

Position, Pay, and Hours
Maintenance Worker at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Tempe, Arizona located at 1800 E Libra Drive.

The Maintenance Worker position is full‑time or 28‑hour weekly and the schedule may include weekends and evenings depending on the parish events and activities. The pay is bi‑monthly at $15.15 - $17.00 per hour depending on experience.

Purpose and Scope

The Maintenance Worker assists and supports in the maintaining, repair, and improvement of the Church, offices, storage spaces, and classrooms to support the activities and events at the parish. All work will be done to support the Maintenance Supervisor and all tasks will be completed under the supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, Executive Director of Parish Operations, or Pastor, respectively.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assists and supports the maintenance supervisor with projects to provide a safe, clean, and tidy campus to ensure the efficiency and smooth occurrence of parish calendaring.
  • Supports the Maintenance Supervisor in routine and minor repairs/maintenance of the rectory, church, and office buildings.
  • Provides a safe, secure, and inviting campus as needed to unlock and lock buildings at the start or end of specific workdays to collaborate with the needs of the parish.
  • Performs basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or cleaning services.
  • Assists in setting up for parish events, activities, and classes, as needed.
  • Maintains supplies and materials needed by restocking, purchasing, or obtaining items at the discretion of and with the approval of the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Assists the Maintenance Supervisor as needed with clerical and administrative tasks to maintain relationships with vendors and contracts on related projects and parish needs.
  • Collects and removes garbage and trash from the office, classroom, and church spaces to maintain the cleanliness of the campuses and performs basic janitorial services, as needed.
  • Assists with periodic HVAC maintenance and filter replacement.
  • Assists with scheduled activities audio‑visual needs, if needed.
  • Contributes to a professional environment and demonstrates a cooperative attitude and effective working relationship with all departments, ministries, employees, volunteers, and parishioners.
Additional Job Functions
  • Any tasks assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor (Executive Director of Parish Operations or Pastor) to adapt to changing needs, emergencies, or higher‑priority items to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and efficiency of the parish.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  • Working knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices involved in building and grounds maintenance and repair.
  • Working knowledge of safe work practices.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds without assistance.
  • Safely operate ladders, lifts, and other related equipment according to machine guidelines and protocols.
  • Maintain a friendly demeanor to parishioners, staff members, volunteers, visitors, and vendors.
  • Up to date with Diocesan Safe Environment Training requirements.
  • Ability to provide own transportation for job‑related responsibilities.
  • Valid Arizona driver’s license.
  • Living in Communion with the Magisterium and Teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Desired
  • 1st Aid/CPR/AED Certification
  • Food Handler’s Certificate or Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) Certificate
