Job summary

The Marzetti Company is seeking a Maintenance Technician level G5 to support critical production equipment and facilities. The role requires completing a standardized HR test and adhering to safety protocols while performing repairs on processing equipment and buildings.

The position supports PM activities, entry of maintenance data, and collaboration with the maintenance team in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Overview

Maintenance Technician G5 is a fifth-level technician. This individual is required to meet all the expectations as defined in Level G1, G2, G3, and G4 Key Result Expectations as well as the elevated expectations as defined in the Key Result Expectations for Level G5 to maintain this position. The preliminary determination will be based on a standardized test that will be administered by the Human Resources Department.

Maintenance Technician G5 is a fifth-level technician. The preliminary determination will be based on a standardized test that will be administered by the Human Resources Department.

Responsibilities → What You'll Do

Level G1 Key Result Expectations

• Start Time 2:00pm up to 8hrs with approved and required over time.
• Completes individual lockout / tagout training and demonstrates they can identify the lock locations for a particular machine, physically follow the lockout procedure, and apply the appropriate lockout devices defined by the procedure.
• Follows all safety protocols and wears appropriate PPE at all times.
• Follows directions, verbal or written for basic assembly and repair of equipment.
• Assists other maintenance techs on projects and rebuilds.
• Learns the locations and proper descriptions of lines and equipment.
• Learn to locate parts in the parts room and sign out correctly.
• Completes paperwork for checklists, work orders, and other documentation as required.
• Learns to enter and complete work orders in the computerized maintenance management system.
• Performs repair work on production equipment, processing equipment, and buildings/grounds as assigned.
• Initiates work efforts independently, when possible, to complete assigned tasks.

• Willing to work regular shift hours, off-shift hours, overtime, and be on call as needed.
• Perform other duties when requested by the Maintenance Supervisor and or Lead Mechanic when the need arises.

Level G2 Key Result Expectations

• Starts and safely stops key equipment, this includes carton erector, filler, packing robot, conveyors, labelers, and carton closers but may include additional support equipment.
• Adjust box erectors/closers for specific carton sizes and produce usable cartons.
• Disassembles and reassembles filler pumps using the correct O-rings.
• Remove and install the cup dropper where applicable.
• Changes lidding roll and threads onto the machine in the correct path. (52MM)
• Installs and removes heater assemblies correctly, including proper alignment and attaching thermocouple assemblies in their correct locations where applicable.
• Installs and removes lid knife assemblies correctly, including proper alignment. (52MM)
• Understands the fundamental operation of the pick-and-place robots.
• Makes minor adjustments to the carton divider inserter ( MGS).
• Starts or stops inkjet coding systems and can align printer head in proper location.
• Performs PM duties as assigned following written PM document with minor supervision.
• Interprets basic machine diagrams to identify needed parts and or assemblies.
• Rebuilds heater and cup dropper assemblies as needed.
• Uses a Multimeter and or Amp probe to detect the presence or absence of power.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Lead.

Level G3 Key Result Expectations

• Operates all packaging equipment at the production level of operation.
• Changes package selection on packing robots for different product sizes.
• Interprets complex wiring diagrams and mechanical drawings to facilitate repairs.
• Troubleshoot and repair all mechanical equipment in assigned areas.
• Troubleshoot 3-phase motor controls and perform repairs as required.
• Replace and wire three-phase and single-phase motors correctly.Troubleshoot and repair electrical control issues as they arise.
• Uses Input and Output indications on a PLC to diagnose and repair peripheral components assigned to those inputs and outputs.
• Fabricates and or modifies mechanical components for equipment.
• Performs minor stick or TIG welds to repair damaged components.
• Performs complete line changeovers as product demand dictates.

Level G4 Key Result Expectations

• Demonstrated ability to lead maintenance projects which include new equipment installs and rebuilds when assigned.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical issues in all production equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in all production equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair advanced pneumatic and control issues in the processing area.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret CIP piping circuits and information feedback devices by looking at operator interface screens, direct observation, and schematics to determine and resolve issues.

• Demonstrated ability to rebuild pumps and or replace pump motors when required.
• Demonstrated ability to perform advanced fabrication and sanitary welds when required.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot using a laptop with PLC software. NOTE: access to any machine with a laptop requires permission from Maintenance Supervision or the Maintenance Manager. This includes hooking the laptop to a PLC, opening the program, establishing communication with the PLC, and navigating the program without making changes to verify operation. At a minimum, the above conditions must be met using Allen Bradley software.

Level G5 Key Result Expectations

• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues with the HVAC systems.
• Attends and passes Ammonia Operator 1 training.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues with the Ammonia system.
• Possesses complete operational knowledge of the wastewater system including system control, waste flows, standard conditions, and chemical additions.
• Demonstrates ability to replace and commission faulty Allen Bradley drives.
• Demonstrates ability to lead Maintenance Team activities in the absence of the Maintenance Supervisor.

To be qualified for the Maintenance Technician level G5 level the prospective employee must pass a standardized test to ascertain their basic knowledge of the various trade skills.

• Using personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, goggles, gloves, hearing protection, protective clothing, and other equipment as established in company policies and safe work procedures.
• Working with cutting & machining fluids, solvents, lubricants, and other hazardous chemicals using appropriate safety controls.
• Lifting/moving objects up to 50 pounds in weight
• Frequent carrying, bending, standing, sitting, and repetitive motion.
• Levels of noise greater than 60 decibels requiring hearing protection
• Smells or odors from Spices, ingredients, or cleaning chemicals

Additional Considerations

The Employee will be expected to attend safety training, will to serve on the facility safety committee, and participate in hazard analysis and resolution.
