Job summary

Higley Unified School District 60 Maintenance and Construction in Gilbert, AZ is seeking an experienced HVAC maintenance technician. This full-time role focuses on routine maintenance and repairs of commercial HVAC systems, including walk-in coolers/freezers, and requires a Refrigeration License Level II.

You will manage inventory, perform inspections, document issues, and respond to after-hours service requests, reporting to a site supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Five years of experience in a similar maintenance position.
  • Minimum High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Refrigeration License, Level II.
  • Experience with EMS, chillers, cooling towers, package units and split systems.
  • Knowledge of Commercial A/C.
  • Valid driver's license/CDL if driving is required; driving record may be reviewed.
  • No felonies or crimes against children; IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance of commercial HVAC systems (A/C).
  • Repair and service AC systems as needed.
  • Familiarize with walk-in coolers and freezers; monitor low-temp systems.
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies for maintenance work.
  • Inspect district systems regularly to ensure proper operation.
  • Report damages or maintenance issues to supervisor; perform after-hours calls as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support HUSD Vision, Mission and Goals.
  • Responsible for routine maintenance of commercial A/C.
  • Responsible for all repairs to A/C systems as needed.
  • Familiar with Refrigeration systems such as Walk in Coolers and Freezers/Low Temp.
  • Responsible for inventory of all equipment and supplies needed for maintenance and repair of these systems.
  • Inspects district systems on a regular basis to ensure system are functioning properly.
  • Reports any damage or other maintenance issues to supervisor.
  • Perform after hours services as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five years of experience in similar position preferred.
  • Minimum High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Must have a Refrigeration License, Level II.
  • Experience with Energy Management Systems, Chillers, Cooling towers, Package units and Split systems.
  • Knowledge of Commercial A/C.
  • A valid driver's license and/or a CDL, if driving is required as part of your position description. The District shall be entitled to review your driving record periodically with the Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles;
  • No convictions for felonies or crimes against children.
  • Valid IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

The employee is regularly required to perform the following duties:

  • Frequent communication with parents, students, and staff including the exchange of accurate information.

  • Raising or lowering objects from one level to another from 25 – 75 lbs.
  • Exerting force upon an object so that the object moves away from the force or towards the force.
  • Frequently required to position body to perform maintenance duties by bending body downward and forward at the waist often requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles, bending body downward and forward by bending legs and spine.
  • Occasionally ascending or descending ladders and stairs using feet and legs or hands and arms.
  • Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
  • Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, crouching on narrow slippery surfaces.
  • Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands.
  • Clarity of vision at various ranges up to 20 feet including observing an area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are fixed on a given point.
  • Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
  • Exposure to the following environmental conditions including weather, moving mechanical parts, electric shock, vibration, extreme heat, noise, and toxic chemicals.

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-Time Position - 12 months, Monday - Friday 8 hours a day.

SALARY CLASSIFICATION: Appropriate salary placement on the Classified Hourly Salary Schedule.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by Site Administrator and according to District Policy.

TOTAL PAID HOLIDAYS: 21
