Are you ready to be a vital part of electrifying Alaska's future? At Alaska Village Electric Cooperative, we're on a mission to light up the Last Frontier. We're seeking a Maintenance Technician/Welder who is dependable, knowledgeable, self-motivated, resourceful, enjoys travel, and is adventurous enough to work in rural Alaska.
Alaska Village Electric Cooperative (AVEC) serves 59 communities across Alaska with 46 small, isolated grids powered by diesel, wind, and solar energy, maintaining 11,513 meters and 515 miles of distribution lines.
As a Maintenance Technician/Welder at AVEC, you'll play a key role in our member-driven service, performing construction, maintenance, repairs, and welding tasks to supply electrical energy to remote villages. Your duties will include major overhauls, repairs, preventive maintenance, and improvising temporary solutions. Traveling to various communities, you'll instruct Power Plant Operators on equipment use, safety, and maintenance, fostering good relations with members and village councils.
This position involves approximately 80% travel. During your time off, you'll have opportunities for fishing, hunting, and exploring parts of Alaska most residents never see.
The role requires welding, fabricating, and repairing metal structures and equipment, with a strong understanding of welding techniques, blueprints, and safety standards.
Pay ranges from $29.48 to $38.44 per hour, depending on experience. Benefits include a 401K with employer match, a retirement pension plan, paid leave starting at 21 days per year, 8 paid holidays plus 2 floating holidays and a birthday. Additional benefits include medical, dental, vision, health savings or flexible spending accounts, life insurance, and short- and long-term disability.
