St. Patrick's Parish in Rockville, Maryland, is hiring a Maintenance Technician to maintain the school building areas. The technician will report to the Facility Manager and work under the direction of the School Principal for school-related tasks. The Pastor may also require services as needed. Clear communication is essential for prioritizing tasks.

This position is 20 hours per week, paying $20.00 to $22.00 per hour.

The candidate must possess sound judgment, perform tasks independently, and be able to lift and move heavy objects.

Summary of Duties

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the school building and areas not covered by contracted cleaning services. Responsibilities include:

  • Inspecting and cleaning interior walls for markings, graffiti, and dirt around the foundation.
  • Performing maintenance tasks as directed by the Principal, Pastor, or Facility Manager.
  • Inspecting and cleaning exterior walls for damage and deterioration.
  • Cleaning interior and exterior windows as needed.
  • Performing scheduled janitorial duties per the Archdiocesan Maintenance Manual.
  • Assisting with inspections.
  • Setting up and breaking down for school functions during school hours.
Work Hours

Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with a half-hour lunch break.

Daily Tasks
  • Cleaning spills and mishaps.
  • Attending to daily school needs.
  • Disinfecting cafeteria tables.
  • Sweeping and trash removal in the cafeteria.
  • Ensuring exit areas are clear for emergencies.
  • Setting up for school functions, with overtime or comp-time as needed.
  • Removing trash from school grounds.
  • Reporting to the Facility Manager.
  • Assisting with deliveries and contractor communication.
  • Implementing emergency preparedness measures.
  • Weekly lighting checks and bulb replacements.
  • Cleaning kitchen and maintaining supplies.
  • Conducting safety and security inspections.
Monthly Tasks
  • Checking fire extinguishers.
  • Exterior foundation and grounds cleaning.
  • Cleaning coping tiles and assisting with emergency drills.
Summer Tasks
  • Cleaning and maintaining bathrooms, classrooms, and common areas.
  • Vacuuming, trash removal, and window cleaning.
  • Setting up classrooms and repairing as needed.
  • Preparing large projects for summer.
Grounds
  • Reporting to work on snow days for snow removal.
  • No mowing or trimming unless directed.
