Job summary

James Hardie is seeking a Maintenance Technician for 2nd shift (Mon-Fri 3:30pm-12am) in Indianapolis, IN. The role focuses on electrical and mechanical maintenance for plastic recycling equipment, including shredders and extruders.

You will troubleshoot 480VAC systems, VFDs, and control panels, perform welding and fabrication, and ensure safety standards such as NFPA 70E and LOTO are followed. Strong CMMS documentation is required.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in industrial maintenance.
• Experience in plastic recycling, waste processing, or related manufacturing is preferred.
• Electrical knowledge of motor controls, PLCs, and industrial wiring.

Responsibilities

• Electrical maintenance focusing on 480VAC motors, VFDs, and control panels.
• Diagnose electrical faults in production equipment using meters, megger, and PLC diagnostics.
• Maintain sensors, relays, solenoids, and safety interlocks on production equipment.
• Ensure NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout (LOTO) compliance.
• Mechanical maintenance on conveyors, extruders, shredders, and pelletizers.
• Weld and fabricate repairs on hopper liners, screw augers, and shredder blades.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems for shredders and material handlers.
• Document maintenance in CMMS and track recurring issues for continuous improvement.

Pay- $38/hr

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Maintenance (Plastic Recycling Focus):

• Troubleshoot and repair480VAC, 3-phase motors, VFDs, and control panelsfor shredders, extruders, and conveyor systems.
• Diagnose electrical faults inproduction equipment, balers, and pelletizersusing multimeters, meggers, and PLC diagnostics.
• Maintain and repairsensors, relays, solenoids, and safety interlockson production equipment
• Ensure compliance withNFPA 70E (Arc Flash Safety) and lockout/tagout (LOTO)

Mechanical Maintenance (Plastic Processing Equipment):

• Performbearing replacements, gearbox repairs, and belt/chain adjustmentson conveyors and granulators.
• Weld (MIG/TIG) and fabricate repairs onhopper liners, screw augers, and shredder blades.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic/pneumatic systems forshredders, forklifts, and material handlers.
• Align and maintainextruder barrels, dies, and cooling systemsto prevent production defects.

Plastic Recycling-Specific Duties:

• Addressmaterial jams, contamination issues, and wear-related failuresin production lines.
• Optimize equipment to handlevaried plastic feedstocks (PET, HDPE, PP, etc.).
• Work withhot melt systems, filtration screens, and pelletizing equipment.
• Document maintenance inCMMSand track recurring issues for continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Experience:3+ years inindustrial maintenance, preferably inplastic recycling, waste processing, or related manufacturing.
• Electrical:Strong knowledge ofmotor controls, PLCs (Allen-Bradley/Siemens), and industrial wiring.
• Mechanical:Proficiency inpump repairs, welding, and mechanical power transmission systems.
• Problem-Solving:Ability to diagnose issues caused bycontaminated plastics or abrasive wear.
• Certifications (Preferred):

NFPA 70E

• Welding (AWS)

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

• Lift50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work industy/noisy conditionsnear moving machinery.
• Exposure toplastic particulates, heat (extruders), and occasional odors.
• Flexibility forovertime or emergency call-insduring breakdowns.
