Job Description: Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Covenant House California (CHC) is a non-profit agency whose mission is to serve homeless and trafficked youth (18-24), offering safety, hope, and opportunities to turn their lives around.

The Maintenance Tech is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, and repair at the Oakland location. The Maintenance Tech will ensure compliance with safety standards, livable conditions, and processes to support the achievement of Covenant House California’s mission, principles, and values.

CLASSIFICATION: Part-Time, approximately 10 hours per week

PAY RATE: $30.00/hour

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform diverse duties to install, repair, and maintain the physical and aesthetic aspects of the Oakland site.
2. Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs of facility and grounds, alongside scheduled maintenance.
3. Conduct weekly facility walk-throughs, complete checklists, and identify potential risks or repair needs, sharing findings with the site supervisor.
4. Perform basic maintenance tasks and responsibilities.
5. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and services.
6. Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, test, and make adjustments.
7. Carry out plumbing and carpentry tasks. When a job exceeds the technician's training or experience, inform management to call an outside vendor, ensuring safety and quality standards.
8. Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment.
9. Detect faulty operations or defective materials and report anomalies to supervision.
10. Maintain safety regulations and keep work areas clean and organized.
11. Other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: 2+ years of basic building maintenance experience.

SKILLS: Good basic maintenance skills, ability to multitask and prioritize, effective communication with site leadership, basic computer skills, and a good driving record for agency vehicle use.

TRANSPORTATION / TRAVEL: Ability to drive own vehicle with mileage reimbursement or use of agency vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily in a general business/office environment; physically active, involving standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 75 pounds regularly. Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and loud noise levels.

EQUIPMENT USED: Power tools, maintenance equipment, computers, calculators, fax machines, telephones, and other necessary equipment.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: None.
