Maintenance Technician, Level 2 (3rd Shift)

Position Overview

The Lab maintenance senior technician’s responsibilities include corrective maintenance, preventative maintenance, and new equipment installations within the Design Engineering lab. The role involves ensuring safe, productive lab operations within budget.

Responsibilities

1. Perform routine maintenance and repairs on lab equipment including plumbing, refrigerant systems, gas supplies, PLCs, VDFs, motors, switches, and relays.
2. Conduct preventative maintenance to reduce downtime and enhance reliability.
3. Coordinate maintenance activities with the operations team to minimize testing disruptions.
4. Troubleshoot malfunctions and coordinate repairs with specialists or vendors.
5. Assist with new equipment installation.
6. Lead process improvement initiatives.
7. Promote safety practices and culture.
8. Coordinate with external suppliers and contractors.
9. Perform additional lab-related tasks as assigned.

Scope and Work Environment

Operate under established instructions and procedures, typically supervised, within a well-defined scope.

Skills and Knowledge

• Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and repair proficiency.
• Maintenance of high and low voltage circuits.
• Experience with PLCs, VFDs, motors, switches, and relays.
• Refrigerant and air movement systems maintenance.
• Basic plumbing support for lab assets.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Use of measurement and testing instruments.
• Proficiency in MS Office and record-keeping.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and adaptability skills.

Experience and Education

• 4-7 years in facility maintenance; 2+ years in electrical and refrigeration maintenance; 2+ years with PLCs.
• Associate degree in relevant field preferred; electrical and refrigerant certifications required if no degree.

Physical and Work Environment

• Frequent sitting, standing, walking; may lift up to 50 lbs.; exposure to temperature variations.

Reports to Lead Facilities Technician / Maintenance and Facilities Manager.
