Scope of the Position

The Maintenance Journeyman and Electrical Maintenance Journeyman are primarily responsible for ensuring the maintenance department reduces downtime and extends equipment lifespan at Ventra Fowlerville. They fabricate, manufacture, calibrate, recondition, and repair machine tools, jigs, fixtures, punches, and gauges used in manufacturing, overhaul, maintenance, and repair of equipment in the Mold, Paint, and/or Assembly departments. They also cover facility repairs when possible and mentor Maintenance Techs and Helpers as opportunities arise.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair machinery, including pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and other identified problems.
• Support plant machinery, equipment, and facility maintenance.
• Fabricate sheet metal parts and safety guards for equipment.
• Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand and power tools.
• Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures; connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, etc.
• Test electrical systems and circuits for safety and compatibility.
• Use various tools and testing devices, including oscilloscopes, ammeters, and test lamps.
• Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring and fixtures based on specifications and codes.
• Inspect electrical systems for hazards, defects, and compliance.
• Diagnose malfunctions using test equipment and schematics; locate causes of breakdowns and correct issues.
• Participate in corrective action plans and follow-up.
• Perform preventative maintenance as directed.
• Move, align, level, and install machinery as needed.
• Assist other skilled trades and mentor junior staff.
• Document all activities, including work orders in Maximo.
• Work overtime when necessary.
• Maintain compliance with company policies, safety, environmental standards, and regulations.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, lean workshops, and training programs.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; at least 6 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
• Journeyman’s card and/or completion of Ventra Fowlerville’s Upgrader program.
• Attention to detail and ability to select proper tools and equipment.
• Strong communication skills; ability to work effectively with various departments.
• Knowledge of production processes, quality control, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency with computers; familiarity with Windows environment.
• Resource organization, planning, and goal setting skills.
• Ability to analyze operations and develop new strategies.
• Recordkeeping skills; effective oral and written communication.
• Ability to develop data systems and identify solutions.
• Valid Hilo license and ability to operate Hilo equipment safely.
• Commitment to high-quality work and safety standards.
• Ability to teach, mentor, and manage time independently.
• Adherence to 5S standards and safety regulations.
