Job description

Position Purpose

Located in the heart of Napa, California’s Wine Country along the historic Silverado Trail, Black Stallion Estate Winery is looking for a Maintenance Technician, Journey level. This pivotal role performs specialized work across multiple winery and facility systems, installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining production equipment in line with safety procedures and industry best practices.

Location: Napa, CA

Essential Duties

• Performs general and preventative maintenance on all winery and facility systems
• Performs mechanical and electrical checks on motors and belts and handles lubrication duties
• Performs diagnostics and determines root cause pertaining to malfunctions on winery and facility systems
• Responds to emergency situations in order to resolve issues on an immediate basis
• Replaces faulty or expired parts
• Provides critical support of production schedules ensuring that customer delivery commitments are met
• Supports harvest and crush equipment for Black Stallion Estate Winery
• Provides emergent repair and troubleshooting services to a wide range of equipment including bottling line, filtration, and other winery and facility related equipment
• Responsible for ordering, purchasing, and maintaining an inventory of necessary parts and tools
• Actively supports winery and facility projects involving carpentry, painting, woodworking, 120-volt electrical, plumbing, and hospitality equipment troubleshooting and repair
• Ensures compliance with applicable quality, environmental, and safety regulatory considerations, following general safety, OSHA, ISO, FSSC, and other certification requirements
• Manages monthly expense reports and company card purchases related to assigned projects
• Manages work orders and CMMS; proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite

Non‑Essential Duties

• Inspects designated buildings, refrigeration plants, and electrical control systems to determine need for maintenance and repair
• Detects malfunctions and creates and implements plans to resolve them
• Handles troubleshooting and repairing systems across a broad spectrum of facilities

Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; AA/AS degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is a plus
• Completion of a craft apprenticeship or equivalent years of education and production maintenance experience; winery experience is preferred
• Minimum five years’ experience in a specialized field of knowledge

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Understands the basic refrigeration cycle, including identifying components, diagnosing problems, using a manifold gauge set, and performing routine maintenance; familiar with refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and charging
• Possesses in-depth knowledge and understanding of all components and theory of operation
• Understands basic electronics theory, how electricity travels, AC and DC currents, single‑phase and three‑phase circuits, series and parallel circuits; reads basic wiring diagrams; understands Ohm’s Law; uses multimeters to read voltage, current, and resistance values; troubleshoots basic electrical circuits
• Understands the basic heating cycle, including identifying components, diagnosing problems using a gas pressure test, and performing routine maintenance and troubleshooting
• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance
• Physics knowledge of fluid dynamics, material dynamics, and mechanical principles, and the ability to predict physical phenomena

Working Conditions

Constant exposure to the elements and temperature variation working both indoors and outdoors and at heights up to 45 feet. Some work areas require ear and eye protection. Exposure to standard maintenance materials including batteries, lubricating fluids, paints, solvents, and the like. This position is on a rotating shift schedule.

This is a non‑exempt position. The pay range for this position is $29.18 to $45.69. Actual placement within the range depends on several factors, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s qualifications, education, experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
