Koch Fertilizer in Wever, IA is seeking a Maintenance Technician Intern for Summer 2027. This 12-week internship offers hands-on experience in an industrial setting with no prior experience required and a clear path to a maintenance career.

Interns will work on real projects, partner with maintenance and operations teams, and participate in preventive and predictive maintenance to improve equipment reliability and plant performance.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program.
• Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship.
• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience working on projects that are representative of the work our full-time maintenance professionals perform.
• Partner with maintenance and operations teams to troubleshoot equipment issues and improve reliability across the facility.
• Support the inspection and maintenance of fixed equipment such as pressure vessels, heat exchangers, storage tanks, boilers, furnaces, and heaters.
• Assist with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of rotating equipment, including pumps and compressor systems.
• Work alongside our maintenance team to support equipment reliability, operational efficiency, and plant performance through predictive and preventive maintenance activities.

Koch Fertilizer in Wever, IA is seeking a Maintenance Technician Intern to join our team for the Summer of 2027. This is a great opportunity to learn about an industrial work environment without any previous experience and see the foundation of a successful career in the maintenance space.

Koch has been consistently selected as one of the top 100 Internship Programs in the U.S by WayUp. The internship opportunity is a 12-week program from late-May to early August 2027. The shift schedule with be a 4-day, 10-hour shift work week.

What You Will Do

• Gain hands-on experience working on projects that are representative of the work our full-time maintenance professionals perform.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Wearing industrial chemical plant uniforms and PPE as required.
• Confined space entry may be required.
• Ability to work in an industrial environment which includes availability for shift work and emergency call outs, while working indoors and outdoors

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

• Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of a relevant degree, certificate, or workforce training program

• Willing and able to meet all physical requirements

What Will Put You Ahead

• Currently enrolled in programs such as Welding, Industrial Maintenance, Auto/diesel Tech, Mechanical Maintenance, Advanced Manufacturing, etc.
• Previous experience working in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment.
• Previous armed forces experience as an aircraft mechanic, aircraft structural maintenance specialist, or other relevant military experience
• Experience maintaining or repairing rotating or fixed equipment.
