Job summary

New Horizons Baking Company in Ohio is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to install, repair, and maintain bakery machinery in a fast-paced plant environment. You will read blueprints, use hand tools and power tools, and keep equipment in top condition to prevent production downtime.

We value safety, teamwork, and adaptability. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with 2–5 years of plant maintenance experience; food processing background is a plus.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training preferred.
  • 2–5 years of comprehensive plant/industrial maintenance experience.
  • Experience in a food processing environment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with installation and repair of bakery machinery.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment per safety guidelines (OSHA).
  • Read blueprints and schematics; train others on them as needed.
  • Coordinate planned maintenance to minimize downtime and meet production schedules.
  • Lead small projects and collaborate with a team while maintaining company maintenance standards.

Hourly Pay: $32+ (BOE)

Description of Position and Responsibilities
  • Assist with the installation and repair of bakery machinery
  • Ability to use appropriate hand tools, power tools and electrical and electronic test equipment according to safety and OSHA guidelines. Comfortable in the use of PPE
  • Diagnose malfunctioning apparatus, such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures to identify problems and develop a plan for repair or replacement; managing the project through correction of the problem, usually working on fairly short timelines, particularly when the problem impacts production
  • Coordinate the planned maintenance of all equipment in the plant to ensure operations are down as short a time as possible to ensure customer orders are met
  • Perform the regular maintenance of specific components such as the Metal Detector in accordance with all regulatory and corporate policies and practices
  • Overall knowledge of maintenance processes and procedures and a good understanding of Company standards for efficient and effective maintenance standards
  • May lead projects as needed; ability to work independently but supporting a team philosophy, with a coaching approach that gets the work done
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Broad maintenance knowledge and experience, with expertise and passion in at least one of the following areas: Electrical, welding, mechanical, and/or PLCs
  • Proper usage of maintenance tools and equipment in order to be in a position to support the team and perform emergency repairs when needed
  • The ability to read blueprints, schematic diagrams, equipment manuals and the ability to train others on them
  • Efficient in the use of hand tools, power tools, calipers, programmable controllers, robotics, and comfortable in the safe use of all power tools and equipment
  • Understand processes for diagnosing problems on the lines and able to develop a project plan to resolve issues efficiently and in keeping with regulatory requirements
  • Follow electrical code, manuals, schematic diagrams, blueprints and project plans
  • Ability to create, read and understand reports as well as the ability to break down technical issues into simple language for non-technical operators to understand
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to create information with accuracy and efficiently
  • Diplomacy, tact and a positive approach to problems is required in managing implementation of solutions, even for others who may or may not report to this position
  • Education in a trade or vocation environment or through an apprenticeship program
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of comprehensive experience in a plant or industrial maintenance
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Familiarity with computers and some exposure to diagramming and project management is helpful
  • Experience in a food processing environment is preferred but not required
Requirements
  • Ability to move about regularly and stand or sit for extended periods
  • Regular need to reach bend, squat, and work in fairly confined spaces
  • Able to climb ladders and crawl underneath the lines to diagnose problems
  • Ability to regularly lift 25 lbs and occasionally lift 100 lbs.
  • Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions and drawings
  • Will work primarily in the plant environment which is subject to extreme temperatures
