Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls troubleshooting.
  • Diagnose automation/control issues using schematics, PLCs, HMIs, and documentation.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Support installation, commissioning, calibration, modification, and startup of equipment.
  • Collaborate with Production and Engineering to identify recurring issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with upgrades and continuous improvement projects for safety and efficiency.

Role Overview

The Maintenance Technician II – Automation is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and optimizing automated manufacturing equipment and production systems. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of production operations by responding to equipment failures, performing preventive and predictive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate has strong experience working in a highly automated manufacturing environment and is capable of troubleshooting complex mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, robotic, laser, and automated systems. This role requires a hands‑on technician who can diagnose problems independently, minimize equipment downtime, and work collaboratively with engineering, production, and other maintenance personnel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex automated manufacturing equipment, including industrial lasers, robotics, CNC equipment, automated material handling systems, conveyors, and other large-scale production machinery.
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls troubleshooting to identify and correct equipment failures.
  • Diagnose automation and control system issues using electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC diagnostics, HMI interfaces, manuals, and other technical documentation.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on automated production equipment to improve equipment reliability and minimize unplanned downtime.
  • Troubleshoot robotic systems, including robot faults, sensors, end‑of‑arm tooling, motion systems, and automated sequences.
  • Troubleshoot laser systems and associated equipment, including power supplies, cooling systems, optics, motion systems, sensors, and related automation components.
  • Assist with the installation, commissioning, calibration, modification, and startup of new or existing manufacturing equipment.
  • Work closely with Production and Engineering teams to identify recurring equipment issues and develop long‑term corrective actions.
  • Support equipment upgrades, automation improvements, and continuous improvement projects designed to increase production efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Utilize diagnostic equipment such as multimeters, electrical test equipment, laptop-based diagnostic software, and other specialized tools to identify equipment faults.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams, equipment manuals, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment failures, repairs, parts usage, and preventive maintenance activities.
  • Assist in identifying spare parts requirements and maintaining appropriate inventory levels for critical equipment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), electrical safety, machine guarding, and other applicable manufacturing safety requirements.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to less‑experienced maintenance technicians as needed.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis and recommend improvements to reduce recurring equipment failures and downtime.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner and prioritize repairs based on production requirements, safety, and business impact.
  • Perform other maintenance and technical duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification, associate degree, or equivalent technical training in industrial maintenance, automation, electrical technology, mechatronics, robotics, or a related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in industrial, manufacturing, automation, or equipment maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and repairing automated manufacturing equipment, robotics, lasers, CNC machinery, or other complex production systems.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated control systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, pneumatic/hydraulic diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, sensors, drives, motors, servos, relays, and other industrial automation components.
  • Experience using electrical and electronic diagnostic tools to troubleshoot equipment and control systems.
  • Strong understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex equipment problems using a systematic, root‑cause‑based approach.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and prioritize multiple maintenance requirements in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with Production, Engineering, Quality, and other cross‑functional teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to equipment reliability, safety, and quality.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and general industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO).
  • Ability to safely work around high‑voltage electrical systems, industrial robots, lasers, moving machinery, and other industrial equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver equipment, tools, and parts as required to perform maintenance duties.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as required by production needs.
  • Ability to regularly work in warehouse and manufacturing environments
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout warehouse and production areas for extended periods
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.Ability to safely operate or become certified to operate material handling equipment, including forklifts and pallet jacks
  • Ability to work in environments with machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
  • Must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety requirements
