Job summary

Acoustical Sheetmetal Company is seeking a Safety Technician I to support its safety programs across manufacturing operations. You will help identify hazards, conduct routine inspections, assist with training, and support incident investigations to promote an injury-free workplace.

Qualifications

Role Overview

The Safety Technician I is an entry-level Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) professional responsible for supporting ASC's safety programs and promoting safe work practices throughout manufacturing operations. This position plays a key role in hazard identification, regulatory compliance, safety inspections, employee engagement, and safety training while working under the guidance of senior safety personnel.

The Safety Technician I maintains an active presence on the production floor to support employees, identify risks, conduct inspections, and assist with safety initiatives that contribute to ASC's goal of maintaining an injury-free workplace. Success in this role is measured through safety engagement, training effectiveness, compliance performance, hazard mitigation, and support of continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety inspections throughout manufacturing, warehouse, and facility operations.
  • Identify, document, and report unsafe conditions, behaviors, and potential hazards.
  • Correct minor safety hazards immediately when appropriate and within scope of responsibility.
  • Assist with new employee safety orientation and onboarding activities.
  • Support incident investigations by gathering information, documenting findings, and assisting with corrective action implementation.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheet (SDS) files and other required safety documentation.
  • Conduct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance audits and provide coaching to employees when needed.
  • Perform routine fire extinguisher inspections and maintain inspection records.
  • Assist with hearing conservation, respiratory protection, and occupational health programs.
  • Participate in monthly Safety Committee meetings and support safety improvement initiatives.
  • Build positive working relationships with production personnel and promote employee involvement in safety programs.
  • Conduct housekeeping inspections and verify compliance with workplace organization standards.
  • Inspect emergency response equipment, eyewash stations, fire protection systems, and related safety equipment.
  • Assist with employee safety training and awareness programs.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, audit reports, training documentation, and compliance records.
  • Support safety audits and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Assist with hazard assessments and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Promote ASC's safety culture through positive engagement, coaching, and communication.
  • Ensure all activities support ASC's commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and operational excellence.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Reduction in Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART) rates.
  • Successful completion of assigned safety inspections and audits.
  • Training compliance and completion rates for required safety programs.
  • Timely closure of corrective actions and safety findings.
  • Increased employee participation in safety observations and hazard reporting.
  • Timely completion and accuracy of safety documentation and compliance records.
  • Increased engagement and visibility of EHS initiatives throughout the organization.

What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate Degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Technology, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, warehouse, construction, military, or related environments.
  • Manufacturing experience preferred.

Required Certifications

  • OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certification.
  • OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Certification within 12 months of hire.
  • CPR / AED / First Aid Certification.
  • Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) / Scissor Lift Certification.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Basic knowledge of OSHA 1910 General Industry regulations.
  • Understanding of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements and enforcement.
  • Familiarity with Hazard Communication (HazCom) programs and SDS administration.
  • Basic understanding of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and energy control principles.
  • Knowledge of Walking-Working Surface requirements and hazard prevention practices.
  • Understanding of incident reporting, documentation, and investigation processes.
  • Strong observation and hazard-recognition skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic recordkeeping systems.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, climb, and move throughout manufacturing and warehouse facilities.
