Job summary

The Hillman Group is seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician II to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain production equipment and facility systems. The role requires electromechanical aptitude, fabrication skills, and the ability to work independently on a variety of maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities include preventive and corrective maintenance, wiring and control system troubleshooting, and supporting TPM and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Technical degree or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with both electrical and mechanical systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience required.
• PLC and automation troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and work in various industrial environments.

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining production equipment, facility systems, and supporting infrastructure. This role requires strong electromechanical aptitude, fabrication skills, and the ability to work independently on a wide range of maintenance activities.

Core Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and restore production safely and efficiently.
• Install, modify, and improve machinery, tooling, and facility systems.
• Document maintenance work orders, repairs, and parts usage.
• Support continuous improvement, TPM, and reliability initiatives.
• Follow all safety procedures including LOTO, machine guarding, and PPE requirements.

Electromechanical Requirements

• Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems up to 480V.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
• Diagnose motors, starters, relays, contactors, sensors, and control circuits.
• Troubleshoot PLC-controlled equipment (Allen-Bradley, Omron, Siemens, etc.).
• Perform basic PLC monitoring and fault diagnosis.
• Install and troubleshoot VFDs, HMIs, and industrial communication devices.
• Repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including valves, cylinders, pumps, and regulators.
• Perform mechanical repairs on conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, drives, and power transmission systems.
• Use electrical testing equipment including multimeters, amp probes, and megohm meters.

Fabrication & Machining Requirements

• Perform MIG, TIG, and stick welding as needed.
• Fabricate machine guards, brackets, platforms, supports, and equipment modifications.
• Use cutting equipment including plasma cutters, torches, saws, and grinders.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings and fabrication sketches.
• Operate drill presses, band saws, and other shop equipment safely.
• Measure and fabricate components using precision measuring tools.
• Assist with reverse engineering and creation of replacement parts when necessary.
• Perform minor machining tasks and equipment modifications to support production.

Qualifications

• Technical degree, industrial maintenance certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
• 3+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with both electrical and mechanical systems.
• Welding and fabrication experience required.
• PLC and automation troubleshooting experience preferred.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

Preferred Skills

• Allen-Bradley PLC and VFD experience.
• TPM and preventive maintenance experience.
• CMMS work order system experience.
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement participation.
