Job description

The Maintenance Technician II is an experienced technician responsible for independently performing maintenance tasks to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of a chemical manufacturing facility. This role requires expertise in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as troubleshooting and repair of process equipment. The Maintenance Technician II works in situations requiring advanced safety protocols, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment, mentors junior team members, and contributes to continuous improvement efforts.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Perform installation, preventative maintenance, repair, and overhaul of pneumatic, hydraulic, and rotating equipment systems ensuring compliance with plant specifications and industry standards.
2. Respond to emergency maintenance calls and perform necessary repairs to minimize downtime.
3. Conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance activities to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
4. Follow and enforce all safety rules and procedures, including:
   • Safe Work Permit
   • Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
   • Line Break
   • Hot Work
   • Confined Space Entry
   • Ensure compliance to PPE requirements, always maintaining a safe working environment.
5. Operate forklifts, boom lift, carry deck, scissor lift, and other industrial equipment, ensuring proper training and certification.
6. Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and P&IDs to diagnose and resolve equipment issues.
7. Participate in Maintenance Team continuous improvement activities:
   • Collaborate with Engineering to identify root cause of equipment failures and determine actions for improved reliability.
   • Write, review, and edit standard operating procedures (SOPs) to enhance maintenance processes and safety compliance.
8. Guide and mentor less experienced maintenance technicians, assisting them with skill development and troubleshooting complex issues.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing or industrial maintenance role
• Strong troubleshooting skills in mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, schematics, and technical drawings
• Experience with maintenance tools and equipment, including saws, drill presses, welding tools, and fabrication equipment
• Knowledge of industrial safety standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces.

Preferred:

• Experience in a PSM chemical manufacturing environment with electrically classified occupancies
• Prior training on Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) regulation
• Prior work following API and ASME standards for pressure vessels and high hazard piping
• EPA Section 608 Technician Certification
• Prior experience with TIG welding
• Familiarity with process instrumentation and DeltaV distributed control system
