Job summary

Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is seeking a Maintenance Technician II to join the Physical Resources team in Atlanta. You will perform mechanical, electrical, and painting repairs across university facilities to keep buildings ready for students, staff, faculty, and guests.

Responsibilities include daily walkthroughs, coordinating with teams, documenting issues, and meeting schedules. You will assist with event setup, manage inventory, and respond to emergencies while following SCAD

Qualifications

  • Forklift license and ability to pass DOT medical exam.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass motor vehicle report.

Job description

As a maintenance technician II with SCAD physical resources, you’ll collaborate with a dedicated team to keep the university's buildings throughout Atlanta in excellent condition and ready for students, staff, faculty, and guests. This responsibility includes a variety of mechanical, electrical, and painting repairs, such as replacing ceiling tiles; installing carpet and vinyl tile; patching drywall; painting rooms, furniture, or other objects; and performing minor roof maintenance.

To support the department, you’ll:

  • Perform daily building walkthroughs
  • Coordinate with other areas of physical resources on repairs that require assistance
  • Complete assigned work order requests and document problems that need correction in the work order system
  • Meet schedules and timelines
  • Provide positive customer service and clear communication

As a technician, you’ll:

  • Assist with event setup and moving furniture
  • Manage maintenance inventory and work with vendors to ensure stock is readily available and not wasted
  • Clean the spaces and manage flooding (i.e., sand bagging; water control diversion; upkeep of sump pumps, pools and fountains; and snow removal)
  • Advise your supervisor when emergencies exist or assistance is needed from other crafts
  • Follow all SCAD and OSHA safety policies and procedures

You must be able to:

  • Read work orders, furniture layouts, and event setups and follow directions
  • Maintain a professional appearance
  • Work independently with little direction
  • Be on call to handle emergency situations

Self-starting candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong time management and listening skills

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or at least three years of experience and/or training
  • Computer proficiency to input payroll and reimbursements
  • Able to lift up to 90 lbs.

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Forklift license
  • Ability to pass a motor vehicle report
  • Ability to pass DOT medical exam

Travel required:

  • Less than 10%

Work hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
