The City of Roanoke is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to perform work on the Streets Maintenance Crew. The successful candidate will engage in skilled work involving the operation of heavy motorized equipment for roadway maintenance and repairs. Equipment used includes asphalt distributor, dump truck, backhoe, heavy front-end loader, large motor grader, and various hand tools. Responsibilities also include making repairs to alleys, road shoulders, medians, curbs, and sidewalks, as well as servicing and repairing equipment. The role may involve operating independently or supervising a street maintenance crew, especially in the absence of a supervisor. The technician will operate heavy and light equipment for snow removal and assist with emergency tasks, including some nights, weekends, and holidays. Maintaining accurate logs, checklists, and pre-trip sheets is required. Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED, with two to three years of related experience or training, and must possess or obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License within 12 months of employment. Ability to obtain Tanker Endorsement (N) may also be required. Additional tasks supporting the division may be assigned.
