Job summary

The City of Kingsport is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks across Grounds Maintenance, Landscaping, Street Maintenance, and Sanitation.

Responsibilities include operating city-owned equipment, performing routine maintenance, and keeping accurate records. The role requires a valid driver's license and, depending on assignment, a CDL or pesticide certification within six months.

Qualifications

• High School graduate or GED equivalent.
• Valid driver's license.
• This role may promote to Maintenance Worker II after successful completion of conditions of employment.
• When assigned to Grounds Maintenance or Landscaping: CDL or pesticide certification within 6 months.
• When assigned to Street Maintenance and Sanitation: CDL or Learner’s Permit within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled maintenance tasks using hand and power tools.
• Operates small equipment such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, and other city machinery.
• Maintains City facilities and open spaces, including grounds and right-of-way vegetation.
• Operates City-owned vehicles and complies with traffic laws and safety regulations.
• Ensures tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
• Performs minor maintenance/repairs on equipment and vehicles.
• Performs inspections and keeps equipment clean and in good condition.
• Keeps records of tasks performed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
