Job summary

The Salvation Army Tyler, TX is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to perform routine building maintenance and minor HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks across the campus. You will inspect, repair, and maintain systems, monitor lighting and safety, and assist with custodial duties as needed.

Candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license. This role requires physical ability to lift heavy objects, work outdoors in varying weather, and respond

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; experience in building maintenance preferred.
  • Two to three years of maintenance/repair experience for commercial buildings and grounds preferred; equivalent training considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine building maintenance and minor repairs (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
  • Inspect, test, and repair systems; monitor lighting and safety equipment.
  • Maintain supplies, parts, and equipment for Facilities Dept.
  • Supervise contract services (pest control, copy machines, utilities) as needed.
  • Assist with custodial duties and after-hours maintenance as required.

Job description

Job Summary

Performs a variety of routine repairs and maintenance work for buildings and grounds including minor heating, ventilation, and air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work as well as routine maintenance and repairs.

Essential Functions

Facilities Maintenance Responsibilities(100%)

Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor plumbing repairs required including leaking faucets, clogged toilets, and water sprinkler malfunctions; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls; performs minor electrical repairs.

Monitors and repairs/replaces light bulbs, florescent tubes, spot lights, exit lights and other lighting malfunctions.

Inspects,tests,adjusts,andrepairsallphysicalmachinery,heating,cooling,piping,andelectricalsystems, and records maintenance in accordance with schedules.

Troubleshoots and repairs minor mechanical malfunctions and performs preventive maintenance on vehicles, dishwashers, laundry machines, vent fans, etc.

Repairs walls, floors, ceilings, cabinets,and furniture.

Maintainsallsupplies,parts,andequipmentbelongingtotheFacilities Department.

Performsmaintenanceactivitiesincludingconstruction,welding,brazing,solderingandplumbingunder the supervision of the Property Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor.

Checks and repairs pumps, fans, valves and motors. Prepares accurate records for preventive maintenance.

Assemblesandmovesofficefurnitureincludingchairs,desks,tables,bulletinboards,etc.

Supervises and monitors all regularly scheduled contract services such as I pest control, copy machines, telephone, street lighting, and utilities services, as needed.

Other Responsibilities

Monitors activities and visitors of building and grounds to ensure security.

Takesonadditionalresponsibilitiesintheabsenceofothermaintenancepersonnel.

Drives a Salvation Army vehicle as needed to pick-up and/or deliver miscellaneous items needed for maintenance work or to transport passengers.

Assists with custodial duties as needed.

Available for after-hours maintenance emergency calls, as needed. Performs other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of general building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades involved. Ability to learn by method of on-the-job training including ability to follow instructions.

Ability to perform routine and minor repair and maintenance activities of buildings and grounds. Ability to use and maintain maintenance equipment and tools effectively and in a safe manner. Ability to detect defects in equipment and to make proper repairs or adjustments.

Ability to follow instructions and work with little or no supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSREQUIRED
Education and Experience

High school diploma or G.E.D. and

Two to three years experience performing maintenance and repair work for commercial buildings and grounds

or

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Certifications

Valid State Driver License

Physical Requirements

Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Abilitytoread,write,andcommunicatetheEnglishlanguageeffectively.

Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work. Ability to drive a vehicle safely to perform assigned tasks.

Duties require frequent periods of physical mobility including but not limited to standing, walking, climbing, stooping, squatting, and lifting. Physical duties may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of sitting.

Extensive amount of physical effort required associated with lifting, moving, and carrying heavy objects (more than 50 lbs.)frequently.

Working Conditions

Work requires driving a vehicle and/or working outdoors daily with exposure to physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
