The Role :

The maintenance Technician -I performs a variety of routine, semi-skilled maintenance tasks for Chapel Haven facilities, including but not limited to carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical trade work. Maintenance Technician-I ensures that facilities are available for use and constantly maintained in a safe and clean condition. This position operates a variety of tools and equipment and performs related work as required. The role of the Maintenance Technician -I requires attention to detail, the ability to identify and resolve maintenance concerns affect efficiency, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and functional environment.

  • Complete minor to basic repairs, including plumbing, painting, electrical and carpentry
  • Monitor and respond to online facility service requests and the woxhub system
  • Oversee general groundskeeping as directed by facilities manager, including lawn and garden maintenance and snow removal as necessary
  • Immediately recognizes potential hazards or warning signs of problems and ensures all jobs are completed in an exemplary and timely manner
  • Assist with maintaining agency vehicles, including cleaning, routine maintenance, oil changes, repairs, emissions, registration, safety inspections, and collecting mileage logs
  • Assemble, repair, maintain, and move furniture such as desks, cabinets, tables, chairs, shelves, and related fittings and fixtures
  • Assist with Chapel Haven special events as needed
  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of heating and air conditioning equipment, including replacing filters
  • Identify and report more complex maintenance needs to facilities Manager
  • Inspect facilities and grounds for safety and security, reporting hazardous conditions and maintenance needs to the facilities manager ensure all Chapel Haven facilities comply with OSHA, DDS, Health Department, Building Department, and Fire Marshall safety standards
  • Perform custodial tasks as required
  • Attend mandatory Chapel Haven training in all agency meetings

Minimum Education Requirements :

  • High School Diploma or GED.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :

  • Minimum of 3 years' work experience including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical.
  • Ability to multi-task and complete assigned duties within a specified period.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

  • Effective judgment and decision-making skills possess a keen sense of initiative.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with other staff.
  • Independently organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
  • Experienced in operating a variety of equipment, including snow blowers, lawnmowers, small hand tools and power tools.
  • Compassion / patience for individuals with disabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize daily maintenance list
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Valid CT Driver’s License
  • Use of own vehicle as needed.

Physical Requirements :

  • Ability to participate in physical activity.
  • Ability to climb, lift, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to do moderate bending, lifting, and standing on a regular basis.
  • This job requires the ability to work outside in all weather conditions.
