Job summary

Job description

The Chattanooga Zoo is seeking an exceptional Facilities Technician to add to The Zoo's Facilities Department. The ideal candidate for this position will be someone who excels at problem solving, has experience working with multiple tools in different settings, and works well both independently and with a team while taking direction from their supervisor. Candidate must be able to work well with visitors and interact with the public.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Constructs, repairs, and renovates new and/or existing buildings and exhibits
  • Performs basic repairs and preventive maintenance on Zoo property or facility equipment and systems, including electrical systems
  • Performs general maintenance including painting, HVAC filters, changing light bulbs, and other general requirements
  • Collaborates with affected staff to design and construct and/or fabricate structures and mechanisms
  • Performs general upkeep on Zoo buildings
  • Assists with general carpentry such as cutting, shaping, jointing, or fitting wood components
  • Uses basic hand and power tools to accomplish tasks assigned
  • Supports Zoo operations by performing a wide range of maintenance and basic administrative tasks
  • Performs Facility Maintenance and Repairs: Obtain and complete work order requests

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two (2) years of experience in maintenance and/or construction
  • Knowledge of basic carpentry
  • Ability to use hand tools and power tools
  • Basic knowledge of test meters and other diagnostic equipment
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Any combination of equivalent education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy: Exerting over 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently. This position requires standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping and lifting/holding a majority of the time.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT

This position routinely works with construction or maintenance machines and equipment such as hand tools, saws, drills, chain saw, paint brushes, wheelbarrows, cleaning equipment, lawn mowers. This position is routinely exposed to external elements which include heat/cold, wet/humid, dry/arid, and extreme weather conditions. Personal protective equipment is frequently required.
