Job summary

Navy Exchange Service Command is seeking a Maintenance Worker to perform upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures, equipment, and facilities at the Great Lakes Distribution Center. Responsibilities include painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical repairs, and preventive maintenance, with attention to safety and proper tool use.

Typical work includes following work orders, inspecting equipment, and ensuring timely completion of tasks while maintaining quality and compliance with standards.

Qualifications

• One year of general maintenance experience involving upkeep of buildings, grounds, fixtures and equipment.
• Specialized experience in painting, plumbing, carpentry and electrical repairs.
• Physical ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Performs minor carpentry tasks to doors, windows, furniture, cabinets, platforms, bins, pallets, etc. Uses hammers, hand-saws, planes, screwdrivers and power tools.
• Inspects and ensures proper working condition of equipment, machinery and facilities via walk-throughs and inspections.
• Prepares surfaces and paints interior items such as shelves and counters; applies premixed paints and cleans painting equipment.
• Assists in installation and repair of pipes, faucets, drains using wrenches and pipe cutters.
• Performs electrical repairs to appliances and light fixtures; inspects repairs for quality.
• Performs preventive maintenance on equipment including fans, air conditioners, and other appliances.
• Maintains safety compliance and informs supervisor of hazards.
• Receives work orders and selects proper tools and methods to complete assignments.
