Job summary

The Kimbell Art Museum is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support repairs and routine maintenance of museum equipment and facilities. This full-time, non-exempt role reports to the Facilities Manager and is scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Responsibilities include daily checks, lighting maintenance, preventive maintenance, event setup, and basic operations of building systems. Candidates should have at least 1 year of related experience and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience in building operation, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical.
  • Basic computer skills required.
  • Knowledge and experience with computerized building management systems preferred.
  • Current driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, reach, climb stairs, and spend much of the day walking and standing.
  • Must pass pre-employment criminal background and drug screening.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on building and equipment as assigned.
  • Assist in set up and teardown for special events.
  • Move wall frames, panels, and brackets and install them in the galleries.
  • Assist in maintenance and care of Museum vehicles and keep them fueled and clean.

DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Technician will assist in all aspects of the repair and maintenance of Museum equipment and facilities.

This full-time, non-exempt position reports to the Facilities Manager and will be scheduled to work 40 hours per week.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assisting in the maintenance of the Museum building and its equipment.
  • Making decisions related to operation of various equipment.
  • Following all safety rules and regulations.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
  • Make daily equipment checks to ensure proper operation.
  • Check and replace lights throughout buildings daily. Check and replace outside lights, as necessary.
  • Make daily exterior checks on museum grounds and parking areas.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on building and equipment as assigned.
  • Check basement, kitchens, and restrooms daily for leaks or broken pipes.
  • Complete checklist for boiler room, basement, and cooling tower equipment, as assigned.
  • Install lighting in galleries for exhibitions and special events.
  • Assist in set up and teardown for special events.
  • Pick up and deliver parts and supplies, as required.
  • Move wall frames, panels, and brackets and install them in the galleries.
  • Assist in the maintenance and care of the Museum vehicles, including keeping them fueled and in a clean condition.
  • Required to work at various heights from step ladders, extension ladders and vertical lifts.
  • Will be required to respond to emergency calls when natural disasters, breakdowns, or other events cause equipment or building failures or problems.
  • Complete other tasks necessary for the proper functioning of the Museum and its activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Requires 1+ years of experience in building operation, maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, and/or electrical.

WORK SCHEDULE

Normal work week is 40 hours, but some overtime will be required. Will be required to work rotating weekends and occasional nights for special events. May be required to respond to emergency after-hours calls and any emergency requiring dealing with the building or equipment.
