Job summary

The Saint Louis Art Museum is seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to support daily operations, including cleaning and event setup, to help run the museum smoothly.

You will perform routine cleaning of all areas, operate floor scrubbers, assist with furniture moves, and coordinate with departments and contractors. The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and working nights/weekends. Benefits included.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Clean all Museum campus areas daily including restrooms, offices, break rooms and galleries.
• Operate heavy cleaning equipment on a rotating schedule (floor scrubbers).
• Set up and break down meetings and events daily (tables/chairs, trash receptacles).
• Collect outside trash and recycling daily; take to outside receptacles.
• Deliver incoming mail and packages to employees.
• Strip/wax floors and clean carpets as needed.
• Maintain outside grounds (trash, leaves) with equipment.
• Move furniture using SLAM truck between campus and off-site warehouse.
• Assist other departments and contractors as needed.
• Perform routine building repairs and maintenance (furniture, doors).
• Help manage the off-site Warehouse facility.
• Schedule/oversee contractors for interior/exterior work (snow removal, landscaping, roofing, etc.).
• Manage pest control with in-house and outside vendors.
• Coordinate furniture needs with department heads and Building Supervisor.

Job description

Summary:

Perform routine maintenance work (not mechanical, electrical, or plumbing). Complete cleaning and event assignments daily, including event setup and break down. This position is designed to help maintain the daily operation of the museum, including after-hours events.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Clean all areas of the Museum campus daily, including restrooms, office spaces, break room, and galleries on a regular schedule. Respond to emergency cleaning requests such as spills. This includes mopping, vacuuming, sinks, toilets, and mirrors, as well as restocking restroom supplies.
• Operate heavy cleaning equipment on a rotating schedule, such as floor Scrubbers.
• Perform meeting and event setups/break downs daily as assigned, including setting up tables and chairs, and ensuring trash receptacles are placed and emptied as needed.
• Collect all outside building trash and recycling daily and take it to the outside receptacles.
• Deliver all incoming mail and packages to all employees inside the museum.
• Strip/Wax floors and clean carpet as needed.
• Maintain the outside grounds of the Museum to keep it free of trash, branches, and leaves using gold cart, leaf blowers, and brooms.
• Handle furniture moves, transporting items to and from the off-site warehouse using the SLAM truck.
• Assist other Museum Departments and contractors hired by the Museum with a variety of tasks as assigned by the building Supervisor and Facility Manager.
• Perform some routine building repairs/general maintenance such as office furniture installations or remodels, servicing doors, etc...
• Help manage the Museum's off-site Warehouse facility.
• Schedule and oversee contractors performing interior and exterior work for the Museum, including, but not limited to, snow removal, landscaping, tuck-pointing, roofing, painting, flooring, and doors.
• Manage Museum pest control, both in-house and with outside vendor.
• Respond to all furniture needs while working with department heads and the Building Supervisor to satisfy employees with what is needed for their office and workspaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid driver's license required
• Must be able to properly use a variety of cleaning implements such as vacuums, floor scrubbers, and mops.
• Must be able to use larger equipment such as lifts and pallet jacks.
• Knowledge of construction methods and materials will be helpful for this position.
• A general knowledge of all building maintenance will be required for this position.
• Must be able to work nights and weekends, with mandatory overtime as needed.
• Must be able to regularly lift 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, walk for long periods of time, and climb steps and ladders.

Additional Information

Hiring Range: $20.88 - $25.05; commensurate with experience

Status: Regular, Full-Time (40 hours/week)

Shift Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

Weekend Shifts: Work 1 weekend every 4 weeks
