Job summary
Georgia-Pacific in Zachary, LA is hiring a Maintenance Technician - E&I to apply technical, analytical and coordination skills to improve reliability of our manufacturing systems.
You will maintain and troubleshoot PLCs, process controls, electrical, instrumentation, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and support projects to minimize downtime. The role requires lifting, safety adherence, and potential weekend/overtime in a fast-paced mill environment.
Qualifications
- Two (2) years or more of experience as a Journeyman Electrical and Instrumentation Technician in an industrial environment
- A two (2) year degree or higher in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Electrical Engineering and two (2) years of industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Three (3) years or more of industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Experience reading electrical drawings
- Knowledge of electrical hazards and safety procedures including NFPA 70 arc flash and OSHA regulations
- Knowledge/experience with plant floor automation and office Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNET, network wiring and Fiber Optic Networks
- Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical and electronic equipment from 24VDC to 480 VDC
- Experience using DC/AC motors, PLCs, VFDs, and Servo systems
Responsibilities
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC's, Process controls, electrical, instrument, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial machinery and install new equipment and support projects as assigned
- Perform routine maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment throughout the mill
- Perform emergency troubleshooting and maintenance on failed equipment to minimize downtime
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical PM findings
- Work with the operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs/improvement ideas
- Adhere to plant safety and environmental guidelines and wear PPE
- Keep plant equipment in good working order per policies and manuals
- Work weekends, holidays, overtime and as needed
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in adverse weather with hazardous chemicals present
- Lift at least 50 lbs.
Job description
Our Georgia‑Pacific mill in Zachary, LA. has an opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - E & I. This position will provide an opportunity for an individual to utilize their technical, analytical, troubleshooting and coordination skills to improve the reliability of our manufacturing systems.
$46.35 per hour
Maintenance supports a Monday through Thursday shift 6:30am -5:00pm they also support the rotating 12-hour shift. Rotating shifts are 5:30-5:30 4 on 4 off with 2 days/2 nights each shift.
Located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA, the Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia‑Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern and Brawny. The paper machines are state of the art for manufacturing of premium tissue paper. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away. There is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.
- Maintain and troubleshoot PLC's, Process controls, electrical, instrument, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial machinery and installing new equipment and support projects as assigned
- Perform routine maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment throughout the mill.
- Perform emergency troubleshooting and maintenance on failed equipment to ensure minimal production downtime.
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical preventative maintenance findings
- Work with the operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs/improvement ideas
- Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and actively participating in safety program including wearing PPE (personal protective equipment)
- Keeping plant equipment in good working order consistent with company policies, equipment manuals and good engineering practices
- Work weekends, holidays, overtime and as needed
- Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in hot, cold, and wet weather conditions in a facility where hazardous chemicals are present
- Lift at least 50 lbs.
- One Or More of the following:
- Two (2) years or more of experience as a Journeyman Electrical and Instrumentation Technician in an industrial environment
- A two (2) year degree or higher in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Electrical Engineering and two (2) years of industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Three (3) years or more of industrial electrical maintenance experience
- Experience reading electrical drawings.
- Knowledge of electrical and other hazards and precautions including safety procedures, NFPA 70 arc flash electrical safety, and OSHA regulations
- Knowledge/experience with plant floor automation and office Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNET, network wiring and Fiber Optic Networks
- Experience diagnosing and repairing various electrical and electronic equipment ranging in voltages from 24VDC to 480 VDC
- Experience using both DC and AC motors, PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives, and Servo Controlled Systems
- Computer skills for record-keeping and documentation functions.
- Rockwell AC drive troubleshooting
- Delta-V use in troubleshooting
- Experience troubleshooting and maintaining packaging equipment
