Job summary

Georgia-Pacific in Zachary, LA is seeking a Maintenance Technician - E & I to apply technical and analytical skills toward improving reliability of our manufacturing systems.

The role involves maintaining and troubleshooting PLCs, electrical, instrumentation, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and supporting projects. Candidates should have industrial electrical experience and familiarity with safety standards, and be prepared for rotating or 12-hour shifts as described.

Qualifications

  • Two years or more of experience as a Journeyman Electrical and Instrumentation Technician in an industrial environment.
  • A two year degree or higher in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Electrical Engineering and two years of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
  • Three years or more of industrial electrical maintenance experience.
  • Experience reading electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70 arc flash electrical safety and OSHA regulations.
  • Knowledge/experience with plant floor automation and Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNET, network wiring and Fiber Optic Networks.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing various electrical and electronic equipment ranging from 24VDC to 480 VDC.
  • Experience using DC and AC motors, PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives, and Servo Controlled Systems.

Job description

Our Georgia-Pacific mill in Zachary, LA. has an opportunity for a Maintenance Technician - E & I. This position will provide an opportunity for an individual to utilize their technical, analytical, troubleshooting and coordination skills to improve the reliability of our manufacturing systems.

Compensation: $46.35 per hour

Shift: Maintenance supports a Monday through Thursday shift 6:30am -5:00pm they also support the rotating 12-hour shift. Rotating shifts are 5:30-5:30 4 on 4 off with 2 days/2 nights each shift.

Our Team

Located just north of Baton Rouge, LA and west of Zachary, LA, the Port Hudson mill employs about 350 people and has two tissue/towel paper machines and produces consumer tissue products such as bath tissue and paper towels sold under the Georgia-Pacific brand names of Quilted Northern® and Brawny®. The paper machines are state of the art for manufacturing of premium tissue paper. The Gulf Coast is only an hour away. There is plenty of history in the area to explore as well. For urban activities, Baton Rouge and New Orleans are just a short drive away.

What Will You Do
  • Maintain and troubleshoot PLC’s, Process controls, electrical, instrument, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and maintain industrial machinery and installing new equipment and support projects as assigned
  • Perform routine maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment throughout the mill.
  • Perform emergency troubleshooting and maintenance on failed equipment to ensure minimal production downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs including labor hours and critical preventative maintenance findings
  • Work with the operations and maintenance teams to identify and prioritize maintenance needs/improvement ideas
  • Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies and procedures and actively participating in safety program including wearing PPE (personal protective equipment)
  • Keeping plant equipment in good working order consistent with company policies, equipment manuals and good engineering practices
  • Work weekends, holidays, overtime and as needed
  • Work at heights, in confined spaces, and in hot, cold, and wet weather conditions in a facility where hazardous chemicals are present
  • Lift at least 50 lbs.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • One Or More of the following:
  • Two (2) years or more of experience as a Journeyman Electrical and Instrumentation Technician in an industrial environment
  • A two (2) year degree or higher in Industrial Electrical Maintenance or Electrical Engineering and two (2) years of industrial electrical maintenance experience
  • Three (3) years or more of industrial electrical maintenance experience
  • Experience reading electrical drawings.
  • Knowledge of electrical and other hazards and precautions including safety procedures, NFPA 70 arc flash electrical safety, and OSHA regulations
  • Knowledge/experience with plant floor automation and office Ethernet, DeviceNet, ControlNET, network wiring and Fiber Optic Networks
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing various electrical and electronic equipment ranging in voltages from 24VDC to 480 VDC
  • Experience using both DC and AC motors, PLCs, Variable Frequency Drives, and Servo Controlled Systems
