Job description

Position Summary

Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment as well as production machines and equipment under constant supervision by performing the following duties.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned. In performing functions, duties or tasks, employees are required to know and follow safe work practices, and to be aware of Company policies and procedures related to job safety, including safety rules and regulations. All functions, duties or tasks are to be carried out in an honest, ethical and professional manner, and to be performed in conformance with applicable Company policies and procedures. In the event of uncertainty or lack of knowledge of Company policies and procedures, employees are required to request clarification or explanations from superiors or authorized company representatives.

  • Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
  • Disassembles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Repairs or replaces defective parts in hydraulic equipment such as valves, motors, cylinders and pumps; conditioning equipment such as grinding and abrasive blast machines; mobile hydraulic equipment; and other plant equipment as designated by supervisor.
  • Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Lubricates and cleans parts.
  • Starts devices to test their performance.
  • Daily inspection and record keeping of various pieces of plant equipment.
Required Skills
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret hydraulic and pneumatic schematics, mechanical drawings, manufacturer's literature, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of supervisors or managers.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Monitor equipment operating conditions and keep records of those conditions.
  • Use of hand tools.
Experience & Education
  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or two to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Regularly exposed to airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, extreme heat and vibration where LOTO and PPE must be used.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
