Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Maintenance Technician for the 3rd shift at our Houston, TX facility. You will perform scheduled preventive maintenance, diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, and respond to breakdowns to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities include reading electrical and hydraulic schematics, maintaining accurate maintenance records, adhering to SQF and GMP standards, and collaborating with operations and leadership.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of maintenance tech experience in manufacturing; 5–10 years a plus.
  • Technical training in mechanical and electrical fields.
  • Experience with 480 VAC and 24 VDC power.
  • Experience with VFDs, servo drives/motors, PLC I/O, and safety modules.
  • Ability to read electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics and blueprints.

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician on 3rd shift maintains the working condition of plant facilities and production equipment in an industrial manufacturing environment. You perform scheduled preventive maintenance, complete repairs and adjustments reported by plant operators, and respond quickly to electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic breakdowns during your assigned shift. You work closely with operations and leadership to ensure equipment reliability, support continuous production, and uphold safety, SQF, and GMP standards.

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks on plant facilities and production equipment according to established maintenance plans.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues on production equipment and facility systems.
  • Respond quickly to equipment breakdowns, troubleshoot issues in a timely manner, and restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
  • Perform adjustments and fine‑tuning of machinery and plant facilities as needed to support production requirements.
  • Dismantle, repair, rebuild, or replace defective mechanical assemblies and components.
  • Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, servo motors, PLC input/output cards, safety modules, and communication systems to maintain and repair equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic schematics and technical drawings, including blueprints, to support troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Keep accurate and up‑to‑date records of maintenance activities, repairs performed, parts used, and equipment status.
  • Adhere to SQF and GMP procedures and ensure maintenance activities comply with quality and regulatory requirements.
  • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies while performing maintenance work.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in and around equipment and maintenance workspaces.
  • Collaborate with plant operators, supervisors, and other team members to identify recurring issues and recommend solutions.
  • Use MS Office and other windows‑based computer systems to document work, track maintenance activities, and communicate with the team.
  • Train on 1st shift initially to learn equipment, processes, and procedures before transitioning to the 3rd shift schedule.
  • Support rotating Saturday coverage and provide flexibility in hours as job duties and production needs require.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of previous experience as a maintenance technician or similar role in a manufacturing environment; 5–10 years of experience is a plus.
  • Technical training in mechanical and electrical fields.
  • Hands‑on experience working with electrical systems including 480 VAC and 24 VDC power.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing production equipment and plant facilities, including electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Skilled in the repair and maintenance of variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives, servo motors, and controllers.
  • Experience working with communication systems such as ASI‑bus, CAN‑bus, Profi‑bus, and Ethernet.
  • Ability to work with PLC input/output cards and safety modules for troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Skilled in working with and troubleshooting pneumatics and hydraulics systems.
  • Ability to dismantle, repair, rebuild, or replace defective mechanical assemblies.
  • Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as part of a team.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills with the ability to analyze issues and determine effective solutions.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities.
  • High attention to detail and strong adherence to procedures and standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and physical fitness sufficient to perform the job duties.
  • Experience using MS Office products and windows‑based computer systems.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree in manufacturing, manufacturing technology, mechatronics, industrial manufacturing, manufacturing automation, or a similar manufacturing‑related specialization preferred.
  • Basic welding ability, including MIG and stick, is a plus.
  • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment is required; only candidates with manufacturing experience will be considered.
  • Creative, innovative, and strategic mindset for continuous improvement in maintenance practices.
  • Willingness to work a 3rd shift schedule and rotating Saturdays as required by production demands.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to new equipment, technologies, and maintenance procedures.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial food and beverage manufacturing facility that is mostly climate controlled and kept clean due to the nature of the products. You work full time on an 8‑hour 3rd shift schedule, Monday through Friday, from 10:00 pm to 6:30 am, with rotating Saturday work and flexibility required as job duties demand. Initial training occurs on 1st shift from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm for approximately one to two weeks. The environment includes frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, and loud noise levels, and you regularly work around production machinery and plant utilities. You use a variety of tools and technologies, including electrical systems at 480 VAC and 24 VDC, VFDs, servo drives and motors, PLCs, communication networks (ASI‑bus, CAN‑bus, Profi‑bus, Ethernet), pneumatic and hydraulic systems, welding equipment (when applicable), and MS Office and other windows‑based computer systems. Appropriate work attire and personal protective equipment are required to meet safety, SQF, and GMP standards while performing all duties.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job‑related factors.
