MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN:

Perform installation, repair, maintenance, and alteration of the largest and most complex machine tools and plant equipment. Layout, installs, checkout, maintain, and repair complex automated control systems. Highly diversified work involving complex use of machinists, electricians, plumbers hand and power tools and equipment. Quick precise judgment required to diagnose, plan, layout, install, build, test, and repair complex types of electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulic equipment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

In addition to the duties and/or responsibilities of lower classified Maintenance Mechanics, Maintenance Mechanics I perform the following:

Electrical:

  • Plan, layout; and perform the complete installation and checking out of complex electronic, numerical and other automated control systems for machine tools, test installations and plant equipment.
  • Diagnose or replace defective wiring, electric and electronic components and associated mechanical parts.
  • Must use caution and follow prescribed safety procedures around electrical and mechanical equipment to avoid shock and possible serious injury to hands and fingers

Mechanical:

  • Perform the installation, relocation, and erection of the largest and most complex machine tools and plant equipment.
  • Check alignment and level of interrelated component parts such as beds, columns, carriages, heads, saddles, rams, rails, etc., and adjust as required.
  • Scrape in surfaces as required and make final checks, adjustments, and alignments after assembly for proper operation and accuracy.
  • Perform all incidental wiring and piping.
  • Interpret complex drawings, diagnose trouble, dismantle and perform complete repair, overhaul, reconditioning, alterations, etc., and reassemble the largest and most complex machine tools and plant equipment.
  • Must follow all lock out tag out procedures as needed.

REQUIREMENTS:

All projects require varying degrees of mental/visual demand depending on their nature. Complex mechanical/electrical repairs requiring continuous, close, and concentrated mental/visual attention.

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with and ability to use electrical equations.
  • Near proficiency and general knowledge of all of the following maintenance fields to meet minimum qualification requirements:
  • mechanical
  • electrical
  • pneumatics/hydraulics
  • electronics
  • facilities maintenance, and welding.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision on trouble shooting problems in above fields.
  • Ability to direct lower classified maintenance mechanics on work of the most complex and involved nature; including major overhaul and rebuild of machine tools and associated control systems.
  • Proper safety equipment worn at all times. Safety goggles recommended preventing eye injury from possible splash or sulfuric acid.

On feet continuously, pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying of heavy and/or bulky parts. Weight amounts may vary from five to 50 pounds, any amount over 50 pounds requires physical or mechanical help. Arm strength and coordination. Repetitive motion of fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders. Simple grasping, power grip, power pinch required. Rotating of upper body to lift and position parts and equipment. Ability to reach and work overhead and above chest level. Bending at waist 45 to 90 degrees. Stooping, squatting, kneeling, and climbing. Ability to operate and handle power and vibrating tools. Ability to climb stairs and ladders. All physical demands will be frequently and/ continuously. Frequently defined as 34% to 66% of the work day/time. Continuously defined as 67% to 100% of the work day/time. ABOVE MAY VARY DEPENDING ON DAILY JOB ASSIGNMENTS.

Practice safe work and environmentally friendly behavior and participate actively in safety and environmental training. Maintain and use as required all personal protective equipment (PPE)and other safety equipment provided. Follow environmentally sound practices to help reduce pollution and conserve natural resources. Understand hazards associated with job assignments and alert supervisor/management of any unsafe conditions or environmental concerns immediately.”.
