Job summary

MIRATECH in Houston, TX seeks a skilled Maintenance Technician to keep automated production equipment available and productive. You will perform hands-on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on complex systems that apply catalytic coatings and support plant operations.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, equipment alignment, servo installation, and collaboration with engineering to optimize performance while ensuring safety and reliability across the production line.

Qualifications

• Experience in a manufacturing setting and preventive maintenance on automated equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and manuals.
• Proficient in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems.
• Familiarity with PLC/HMI concepts and industrial controls.

Responsibilities

• Provide hands-on mechanical troubleshooting for automated production equipment (hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, gear reducers, pumps).
• Fit bearings, align gears/shafts, install servo motors, adjust to precise tolerances; support setup and changeovers.
• Troubleshoot AC/DC motors, VFDs, electrical panels and wiring.
• Troubleshoot actuators, sensors, and related electronics.
• Perform facility repairs (plumbing, carpentry, basic electrical), PMs, lubrication of equipment.
• Repair welding machines, forklifts, shears, and plate rollers.
• Review and document maintenance work orders; maintain records.

Job description

Location: Houston, TX

Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor

Cooperates with: Production, Accounting, Sales, Shipping, Vendors

Primary Responsibility: Maintaining high on-line availability of custom automated equipment used to assemble substrates that will become catalytic converters; automated & manual equipment and systems used to apply catalytic coatings to those substrates; and other production equipment

Responsibilities

• Provide hands‑on mechanical troubleshooting and service of automated production equipment including: hydraulics, pneumatics, pistons, bearings, gear reducers, and pumps
• Fit bearings, align gears and shafts, attach servo motors and connect couplings to precise tolerances; mechanical overhaul and adjustment of machinery. Assist in day‑to‑day support of operators for adjustments, setups, and change overs; demonstrates willingness to help other team members
• Provide electrical troubleshooting and service of AC & DC motors, variable speed drives, electrical panels and wiring
• Provide electronic troubleshooting and service of actuators and sensors
• Provide facility repairs such as plumbing, carpentry, light electrical repairs, machine PM's, lubrication of production equipment
• Equipment repairs on welding machines, forklifts, shears and plate rollers
• Review assigned maintenance work orders and complete maintenance and repair records in a timely manner
• Guide and work with service contractors while transitioning repair, routine preventive maintenance and inspection work to in‑house
• Manage the spare parts and preventive maintenance programs
• Participate in new manufacturing equipment projects from initial concept, through the design and development stage, to the testing of prototypes, to final manufacture, installation and commissioning
• Observe, evaluate and suggest operational/design changes or maintenance needs based on performance and quality control limits to maintain or increase efficiency of manufacturing equipment
• Collaborate and provide information/feedback to engineering group while working to resolve issues
• Eventual training of maintenance technicians as staff size grows
• Chiller system; catalyst washing equipment; process pumps, valves and hoses; air compressor/dryer systems (secondary)

Education and/or Licensing Requirements

• High school diploma or GED (required)
• Formal training in mechanical systems, electronic systems and controls, PLC programming/troubleshooting, electric power and electrical motors

Work Experience

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment (required)
• Demonstrated cross‑functional ability in troubleshooting, modifying, repairing and performing preventative maintenance on automated production equipment with PLC/HMI, electro‑mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic components (required)

Technical Skills

• Ability to follow mechanical drawings, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, engineering specifications, and written/verbal descriptions (required)
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical equipment, including the ability to disassemble machinery to remove parts and make repairs, reassemble, recommission (required)
• Ability to follow electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and use of electrical troubleshooting tools to troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring, instrumentation and controls (required)

Physical Demands/Abilities

• Ability to lift 60 pounds
• Ability to stand for long periods of time
• Ability to respond to urgent mechanical or electrical breakdowns during non‑standard business hours
