Our Facilities Maintenance team plays a vital role in preserving and enhancing one of the nation’s premier cultural institutions. We are seeking a 2nd Shift Maintenance Technician I who takes pride in craftsmanship, problem-solving, and supporting a safe and welcoming environment for guests, staff, volunteers, and members.
The Maintenance Technician I helps maintain the infrastructure that supports every aspect of the guest experience. From routine maintenance and repairs to event support and preventative maintenance activities, this role ensures our facilities remain safe, functional, and visually exceptional.
Whether assisting with building systems, responding to maintenance requests, supporting exhibitions and public programs, or maintaining our grounds and facilities, this position contributes directly to the quality and reputation of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park.

This position works in a variety of environments across the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park campus, including indoor facilities, outdoor spaces, greenhouses, and event venues. Work regularly occurs in changing weather conditions and may include exposure to heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity, direct sunlight, loud noise, dust, leaning agents, and other environmental conditions associated with facility maintenance operations. The schedule may include split shifts, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional emergency response coverage based on operational needs.
This position requires the ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, and perform physically demanding tasks throughout the workday. The employee must be able to regularly lift and carry up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally move or assist with moving items weighing more than 100 pounds. The position requires the ability to climb ladders, work at varying heights, safely operate tools and equipment, and effectively communicate and observe details necessary to perform maintenance activities safely and efficiently.
