Job summary

Olympic Steel, based in Bedford, Ohio, is seeking a Maintenance Technician to support continuous improvement and safety initiatives. This role maintains, repairs, and improves machinery, equipment, and the warehouse facility, including electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic systems, and PLCs.

Daily tasks include preventive maintenance and occasional emergency repairs during production. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and electrical skills, is able to read schematics, and is comfortable

Qualifications

• Experience in industrial maintenance, steel service-center experience accepted.
• Ability to read manufacturing equipment drawings and electrical/plumbing schematics.
• Experience with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in manufacturing environment required.
• Flexibility of work schedule.
• Strong knowledge and ability to use hand tools and welding tools.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and improve machinery, equipment, and warehouse facilities safely and timely.
• Perform preventive maintenance as required and provide emergency/unscheduled repairs during production.
• Participate in scheduled training and continuous improvement activities.
• Read production documents and use calculations for sizes, weights, and conversions.

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician supports and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives and strives to improve safety, quality, and efficiency in all areas of responsibility. Maintain, repair, and improve machinery, equipment, and warehouse facility in a safe and timely manner. Performs mechanic skills including, but not limited to: mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines. Provides emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production. Conducts regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and warehouse facility as required. Participates and fulfills the requirements of scheduled training and educational programs as identified for this position. Participates as requested for independent objective auditing activity and supports continuous improvement activities. May perform daily, weekly, and other routine maintenance and housekeeping on machines and equipment in work area. Understands and uses related production documents as required by position and/or procedures. Uses a calculator, conversion charts and basic math skills to calculate sizes, weights, and metric conversions. May work at different workstations as production needs require.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in an industrial maintenance position, steel service-center experience accepted.
• Significant experience with mechanical, pneumatic, automation, and hydraulics concepts.
• Experience with programmable logic controls (PLCs) in manufacturing environment required.
• Ability to read manufacturing equipment drawings and electrical and plumbing schematics.
• Ability to inspect material for quality using measuring devices and drawings.
• Strong knowledge and ability to use hand tools and welding tools, as well as troubleshoot electrical systems.
• Flexibility of work schedule.
• Working knowledge of general computer programs.
