Job Summary
Responsible for repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment used in the production and packaging of products. Will need to regularly inspect equipment, structures, or materials; work on all requests for various types of maintenance work assigned. Adherence to company health and safety procedures is essential.
Job Duties
- Operate standard maintenance tools safely, including power tools, hand tools, and electrical testing equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance from daily to semi-annual tasks.
- Read and understand mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Perform minor troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues independently.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and equipment.
- Follow safety rules, regulations, and departmental policies. Assist in developing safety techniques.
- Detect, document, report, and repair machine malfunctions and faulty equipment.
- Follow emergency procedures related to power failures.
- Diversify maintenance skills to handle tasks across various work areas and shifts.
- Understand and certify in the company's LOTO program.
- Communicate issues and actions effectively through written daily pass-downs.
Required Competencies & Knowledge
- Practices in maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical components.
- Knowledge of hydraulic, mechanical, electrical systems, PLCs, and conveyor systems.
Skills
- Problem solving, organization, and time management.
- Hydraulic and pneumatic control systems, HVAC, and refrigerant systems.
- AC and DC control wiring.
Abilities
- Basic PLC operation and understanding.
- Pneumatic and hydraulic system repairs.
- Effective verbal and written communication.
- Collaborate with staff and leadership.
- Issue and receive instructions per guidelines.
- Demonstrate safety, quality, and policy-focused behaviors.
- Proficiency in MS Office and maintenance tracking systems.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work primarily on a manufacturing floor with exposure to noise, dust, machinery, forklifts, and temperature fluctuations.
- Sitting briefly at workstations; responding to line calls.
- Lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a 2-year trades degree or 4 years of maintenance experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be 18+ years old, able to read, write, and speak English; bilingual a plus.
- Ability to communicate with sanitation and production staff, supervisors, and managers.
