Job summary

City Utilities of Springfield seeks a Maintenance Technician to install, repair and maintain equipment at Fulbright and Blackman Water Treatment Plants and remote sites. You will train staff and support plant operations with preventive maintenance and safety best practices.

Requirements include a high school diploma, 3 years mechanical and 3 years electrical experience, knowledge of high voltage motors, and a CDL Class A with hazmat endorsement or the ability to obtain it within six months.

Successfully completed a training course in Industrial Motors & Controls I and II or approved equal is preferred.To be eligible for consideration for Maintenance Technician 2nd 6 months, candidate must meet Maintenance Technician 1st 6 months minimum qualifications plus:1) Extensive recent mechanical and electrical maintenance of industrial equipment; and2) Class “A” CDL license with air brake and hazardous material endorsement; and3) Successfully completed a training course in Industrial Motors & Controls I and II or approved equal.To be eligible for consideration for Maintenance Technician 3rd 6 months, candidate must meet the minimum Maintenance Technician 1st 6 months qualifications and the minimum Maintenance Technician 2nd 6 months qualifications plus:1) Extensive recent mechanical and medium voltage (to 6000 volt) electrical maintenance of industrial equipment; and2) Must be registered to take DNR test for class "D" Water license; and3) Hazwoper trained to HAZMAT Technician level.Licensing/Certification:Must have a valid Missouri CDL, Class A including air brakes with hazardous material endorsement, OR:A. The ability to obtain a Missouri Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP) within six weeks of employmentANDB. The ability to obtain a CDL, Class A, including air brakes with hazardous material endorsement within in six months of employment. This requires approximately 15 hours (total) classroom training and completion of behind-the-wheel training (hours to be determined) as required by City Utilities.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must have demonstrated skills in:The maintenance of complex mechanical/electrical equipment, industrial plants, and associated structures.Structural welding, electrical circuitry and test instruments, hydraulic equipment, lifting and hoisting systems, mechanical equipment repair/alignment/tear down/troubleshooting, and safe start-up and shut-down of equipment.Carpentry, plumbing, electrical construction, and use of shop and hand tools.Good oral and written communicatio n and be able to interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.A safe work record and demonstrate good attendance.Ability to effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations.Maintain adherence to all company policies.Physical Requirements:Ability to visually differentiate between color-coded lines and symbols on a computer monitor in order to detect energized and de-energized equipment. Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, crouching, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must be able to lift 55 pounds regularly.Working Conditions:Works both inside and outside in an industrial plant atmosphere. Exposed to low and high voltages, heat, noise, and dangerous chemicals. Work is performed in all types of weather. Reporting site may rotate between work headquarters at Blackman Treatment Plant and Fulbright Treatment Plant.Safety Sensitive Position:A safety-sensitive position involves the performance of duties which may have a direct and immediate impact on the safety of the public and other public employees. This is a safety sensitive position.Miscellaneous Requirements:Break-in training, as well as a minimum of 10 days' annual water treatment plant operation in any or all shifts , is required within the first year of employment.Will be required to pass proficiency testing in areas of required skills, which may also be supported by extensive education or experience.Perform additional plant operation on any and all shifts as required by operations.
