Job summary

City Utilities in Springfield, MO is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs across facilities. You will monitor building automation systems, troubleshoot issues, respond to alarms, and coordinate work with contractors to ensure reliable operation.

Qualified applicants have a high school diploma, 4+ years in heavy commercial HVAC, and licenses including a journeyman or master mechanical license. Knowledge of Trane BAS and Johnson Controls DDC is required.

Duties will also include monitoring computerized control systems from the duty station and from other remote locations, making system adjustments as needed and directed, and responding to system alarms.**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:**1. Performs routine tasks on HVAC equipment and systems including filter changes, greasing bearings, checking performance, responding to trouble calls, and making minor adjustments and repairs.2. Coordinates and verifies the work of service contractors, including HVAC and electrical contractors, and other contract work related to HVAC equipment and systems.3. Assists in the purchasing of HVAC equipment and services, including preparation of requisitions and other related documentation under the direction of the Manager – Facilities Systems.4. Reviews payments for completed work and purchases.5. Documents and submits update information for facility records when equipment or installation changes are made to HVAC equipment or systems, including documentation of major repairs.6. Reviews existing record drawings, databases, and other records for compliance with actual equipment and systems in place and assist in revising records to show current configuration.7. Monitors and documents equipment and system performance and prepare reports showing the effects of various changes and maintenance procedures.8. Recommends system adjustments, changes, and improvements that will provide better system performance, greater occupant comfort, increased operating efficiency, and/or extended equipment life.9. Relates to other employees as customers in a courteous and polite manner. Maintains positive relationships with service contractors, equipment vendors, and suppliers.10. Applies knowledge and use of existing building control systems to the extent practical in the performance of duties, including remote monitoring, alarm notification, and performance adjusting.11. Responds to system alarms, diagnose and dispatch service contractor(s) when necessary.12. Coordinates system adjustments and cleaning to maintain acceptable indoor air quality.13. Performs other related duties (which may vary by location) as assigned by management.**QUALIFICATIONS:****Education and Experience:**High school diploma or equivalent is required. Certificate or coursework from accredited college, vocational, or trade school in a related field is required. Exceptional experience may be considered in lieu of college or vocational training on a year-for-year basis.Four years' progressively responsible experience in the heavy commercial HVAC service field, including experience monitoring and operating Trane Building Automation Systems and Johnson Controls DDC systems is required.**Licensing/Certification:**• A valid driver's license (minimum Class F) is required. • A current Journeyman’s or master’s mechanical license from the City of Springfield is required. • Certification in testing and balancing HVAC systems is preferred. **Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**• Strong working knowledge of governmental and industry mechanical and electrical codes. • Solid understanding of indoor air quality issues and best practices. • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, and the general public. • Proficient in the use of industry-standard tools and diagnostic equipment, including electronic meters, refrigeration gauges, digital diagnostic equipment, computers, and balancing devices. • Ability to: o Make mature decisions without direct supervision. o Complete assignments accurately and with attention to detail. o Represent the City Utilities professionally and courteously in all interactions. o Adapt to changing tasks and responsibilities. o Demonstrated expertise in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving HVAC system issues, including equipment and performance problems. o Effectively utilize a range of digital tools and platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite, enterprise software, artificial intelligence-enhanced applications, and self-service systems. Must possess a willingness and capacity to learn and adapt to emerging technologies, including mobile devices, cloud-based systems, and data-driven platforms relevant to utility operations. • Maintain adherence to all company policies.**Physical Requirements:**Physical requirements include: sitting, standing, grasping, bending, crouching, reaching, balancing, twisting, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and climbing. Must be able to lift materials and supplies (in cumbersome shapes and sizes) up to 75 pounds. Must be physically able to perform some custodial duties at heights.
