Job summary

Idahoan Foods is seeking a Maintenance Technician I to install, troubleshoot, and repair plant equipment in a fast-paced food manufacturing setting. You will work under supervision to maintain conveyor systems, gear boxes, motors, and associated machinery while following safety protocols.

The role requires trade school or maintenance experience, strong math skills, and familiarity with Excel and Windows; welding and torch experience is valued.

Qualifications

  • Two years of trade school and/or minimum 1 year of maintenance experience.
  • Quantitative skills and knowledge of basic math functions.
  • Understanding of process or packaging equipment in food manufacturing.
  • Maintain forklift, CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Proficiency with Windows applications including Excel and E-mail.
  • Ability to read drawings and work from sketches for hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience with cutting torch, oxy-acetylene or plasma and welding (stick, MIG, TIG).
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Start/stop all equipment and understand LOTO control measures.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and repair to minimize downtime.
  • Adjust tension/alignment on belt drives; replace bearings and sprockets.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely; manage maintenance work orders.
  • Complete routine paperwork and maintain clean, organized tools and areas.
  • Communicate with maintenance leads and other departments as required.
  • Validate training and advance as per program guidelines.

Job Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Maintenance Technician I position is to work as a mechanic with duties pertaining to the installation, troubleshooting, and repairing of plant equipment.

Main Responsibilities
  • Start/stop all equipment and understand LOTO (Lockout Tagout) control measures for each.
  • Diagnose equipment failures and make necessary repairs while minimizing production down-time.
  • Adjust proper tensioning and alignment on belt drive systems.
  • Cut, lace and track conveyor belt systems.
  • Check and fill gear boxes with proper oil weight.
  • Properly replace bearings, motor couplings, perform alignments, and adjust sprockets and chains.
  • Safely use hand and power tools in shop (drill, press, band saw, grinder, sanders, etc.).
  • Use a computerized management system to manage maintenance work orders and reporting.
  • Complete routine paperwork as required.
  • Clean job site and tools, store tools and equipment in designated places in an orderly manner.
  • Maintain up to date in-house training as required.
Qualifications/Required Skills
  • Education and/or Experience
    • This position requires two years of trade school and/or a minimum of 1-year experience in maintenance.
  • This position requires quantitative skills and knowledge of math functions such as percentages, decimals, and fractions.
    • The ideal candidate will have a fundamental understanding of process or packaging equipment in the food manufacturing industry.
  • Certifications
    • Complete and maintain Idahoan Foods Forklift, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
    • Training and validated understanding are required to advance to positions of increased responsibilities.
  • Technical Skills
    • Must be familiar with Windows applications such as Excel and E-mail.
    • Basic understanding of troubleshooting pumps, gear boxes, and motors.
  • Basic understanding of proper pipe machining, basic pipe fitting, and plumbing techniques.
    • Demonstrate the ability to work from drawings, sketches, and verbal instructions for hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Familiar with both cutting torch applications (oxy-acetylene and plasma) as well as one of the following welding fundamentals (stick, MIG, TIG).

    • Must be able to communicate effectively with others.
    • This position requires a high degree of self-confidence and maturity to make decisions required in day-to-day activities.
    • Must be able to solve problems with minimal direction, be detailed oriented and have strong organizational skills.

    • Must be able to complete projects based on individual knowledge and experience with limited Management oversight.

  • Work Environment: The nature of this position requires the ability to work in hot, dry, wet, and cold environments inside and outside the facility for extended periods of time.
  • Environmental/Physical aspects
    • This position requires the ability to perform various physical activities such as lifting (up to 50 lbs.), standing on concrete floors for extended periods of time, in an environment with moving parts and loud noise.
    • Must be able to work with sanitizers and cleaning chemicals.
    • Must be flexible to work various shifts as assigned by the Supervisor.
    • Works on ladders, scaffolds, forklift cages and scissor/boom lifts and in pits using proper safety precautions.
  • Relationships
    • Work alongside and take direction from Maintenance Leads and Senior Technicians consistently.
    • Communicate with various department leads and supervisors.
    • Accountable to various departments of plant management
Position Validation
  • Our Position Validation Program focuses on three core areas: On the Job Training, Standard Operating Procedures and Validation of Performance. Through this training, you will have the tools you need to demonstrate an understanding of the key duties of the role through validation.
  • Validating in your role simply means to demonstrate your proficiency in your assigned job.
  • New team members in the Packaging Machine Operator I position must validate on 1 of 4 Processes—Carton Line, Horizontal Line, Vertical Line, or Robot. Once validated, the rate of pay changes from training rate to full pay rate (+ $.75).
  • Team members unable to validate from the training level to this level must try again and pass within one week. Team members unable to validate within the first 10 weeks of employment can move to an open position they qualify for (at the pay rate of that position). If no position exists, the team member will be exited from Idahoan.
