Job summary

Aerotek is seeking a Maintenance Technician I for its Sterling, VA facility. You will troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical, HVAC, hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics systems to keep high-speed processing equipment running reliably.

Responsibilities include reading schematics, performing preventive maintenance, and documenting work orders while adhering to strict safety standards and LOTO procedures. This is a 3rd shift role based in Sterling, VA.

Qualifications

• Apprentice-level electrical and mechanical training with progress in experience.
• HAVC Journeyman license is a strong plus and supports advanced HVAC diagnostics.
• Experience with robotics and automated processing or packaging equipment.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, blueprints, and manuals.

Job Title: Maintenance Technician I

Job Description

The Maintenance Technician I ensures the efficient and reliable operation of high-speed, complex processing and packaging equipment in an industrial facility. This role focuses on troubleshooting, identifying problems, maintaining, testing, installing, and performing mechanical and electrical repairs on a wide range of processing, packaging, and facility systems, including HVAC, hydraulics, pneumatics, and robotics.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled, journey-level electrical work to install, modify, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems, commercial kitchen equipment, controls, and other complex equipment such as hydraulic and pneumatic systems, robotics, motors, pumps, conveying systems, and cooking equipment.
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning components of processing and packaging equipment to quickly identify root causes and restore proper operation.
• Diagnose complex issues related to HVAC systems under general supervision, ensuring reliable heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation throughout the facility.
• Repair and maintain heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation systems, including disassembling, assembling, and installing components associated with these systems.
• Test, adjust, and calibrate mechanical and electrical control systems associated with HVAC equipment to maintain optimal performance and efficiency.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation of maintenance records, work orders, and task records in accordance with facility standards.
• Conduct routine tours of the facility and perform safety checks to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
• Operate company-owned equipment, machinery, power tools, and testing instruments in strict accordance with all applicable safety regulations.
• Follow and perform all Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe maintenance activities.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and manufacturers’ maintenance manuals to determine proper operation and repair methods.
• Perform preventive maintenance on mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and control systems to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Carry out other maintenance-related duties as assigned by management to support overall facility operations.

Essential Skills

• At least 2 years of journey-level experience in electrical and heating equipment maintenance.
• Completion of an apprentice-level electrical and mechanical training program plus 2 years of progressive experience as an electrician preferred.
• HVAC Journeyman's License preferred.
• Strong electrical skills, including installation, modification, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial electrical systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and manufacturers’ maintenance manuals.
• Demonstrated experience with mechanical systems, including installation, repair, and preventive maintenance.
• Hands-on experience working with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, motors, pumps, conveying systems, and related equipment.
• Effective troubleshooting skills with the ability to systematically diagnose mechanical and electrical problems.
• Good mechanical aptitude and operational knowledge of control systems and related components.
• Ability to perform all Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedures safely and correctly.
• Capability to climb ladders and extension ladders up to 35 feet.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
• Comfort working with heating systems, HVAC equipment, and refrigerated environments.

• Experience working with robotics and automated processing or packaging equipment.

• Ability to interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals for a variety of industrial and commercial kitchen equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate maintenance records and work orders.
• Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices when operating power tools, testing equipment, and industrial machinery.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaborate effectively with other maintenance and operations staff.

Work Environment

This role is based in an industrial production facility operating on a 3rd shift schedule from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The work environment includes cold and damp areas, refrigerated spaces, and hot zones near heated equipment, requiring comfort with varying temperatures. You regularly work around high-speed processing and packaging equipment, HVAC systems, motors, pumps, and conveying systems, using company-owned machinery, power tools, and testing equipment while following strict safety procedures. The position involves physical tasks such as climbing ladders up to 35 feet, lifting up to 75 pounds with assistance, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Appropriate industrial work attire and personal protective equipment are required to ensure safety and compliance with facility standards.

This is a Permanent position based out of Sterling, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $66560.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
