Job summary

AL-FE HEAT TREATING INC in Ohio seeks a maintenance technician to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain heat-treat equipment, burners, controls, and mechanical power transmission devices. You will perform startup/shutdown, preventative maintenance, and on-call shifts as needed.

Requirements: high school diploma or GED and at least 2 years of industrial maintenance experience; basic welding, electrical/mechanical troubleshooting, ability to lift 40 lb, forklift operation, and OSHA/PPE familiarity.

Qualifications

• Must have completed training and on-the-job training for Maintenance.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds and operate a forklift.
• 2+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
• Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Coordinates maintenance priorities and schedules.
• Determines implementation and execution of preventative maintenance programs and emergency breakdowns.
• Maintains maintenance supplies, materials, and inventories.
• Maintains documentation of all daily maintenance activity.
• Answers heat treat equipment alarms when required.
• Assists the heat treat classification when required.
• Works various shifts and may be on-call.
• Maintains overall organization and cleanliness of the maintenance department.
• Maintains knowledge of motor controls, switches, relays, flame safeties, and temperature controllers.
• Maintains an understanding of chains, sprockets, belts, motors, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
• Reads mechanical blueprints and schematic diagrams.
• Troubleshoots root cause analysis and repair of mechanical assemblies and power transmission devices.
• Disassembles and rebuilds mechanical assemblies.
• Maintains basic fabricating and plumbing skills.
• Knowledge of combustion systems and burners.
• Performs power outage recovery of all furnaces and ovens.
• Operates all furnace equipment, controls, and systems.
• Corrects furnace problems safely.
• Startup and shutdown of all heat treat equipment.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Coordinates maintenance priorities and schedules.
• Determines the implementation, and execution of preventative maintenance programs and emergency breakdowns.
• Maintains maintenance supplies, materials, and inventories.
• Maintains documentation of all daily maintenance activity.
• Answers heat treat equipment alarms when required.
• Assists the heat treat classification when required.
• Works various shifts if necessary and being "on-call" as required.
• Maintains overall organization and cleanliness of the maintenance department.
• Maintains a working knowledge of motor controls, switches, relays, flame safeties, and temperature controllers.
• Maintains effective use of both equipment and time to achieve maximum productivity.
• Maintains a working knowledge of chains, sprockets, belts, reducers, motors, hydraulics, and air pneumatics.
• Maintains a working understanding of mechanical blueprints and schematic diagrams.
• Troubleshoots root cause analysis and repair of mechanical assemblies and power transmission devices.
• Performs the disassembly and rebuilding of a variety of mechanical assemblies.
• Maintains basic fabricating and plumbing skills.
• Maintains a thorough knowledge of combustion systems and burners.
• Performs power outage recovery of all furnaces and ovens.
• Maintains knowledge of operation of all furnace equipment, controls, and systems.
• Performs safe correction of furnace problems such jammed doors, carriages, etc.
• Responsible for startup and shut down of all heat treat equipment.

Must have completed training and OJT for Maintenance.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS / ABILITIES:

• Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds.
• Must possess good math skills.
• Ability to follow complex, written instructions.
• Must be able to drive a forklift and pass skills test.
• Must maintain a basic understanding of OSHA regulations and effective use of PPE.
• Basic electrical and mechanical trouble shooting skills.
• Basic welding skills.
• Demonstrated agility to perform in confined and high locations.
• Above average organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Capable of working flexible hours, as required.
