Job summary

EJF Real Estate Services Inc is seeking a Maintenance Technician to uphold the physical integrity, cleanliness, and functionality of our residential communities in the DMV area. You will diagnose issues, perform timely repairs, and support turnover tasks with a proactive, safety-conscious approach.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on maintenance experience, strong technical aptitude, and excellent communication to ensure high standards of service and resident satisfaction.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of two years of hands-on general maintenance experience.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Own a set of tools for general maintenance tasks.
• Experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting, appliance repair, and turnover processes.
• Excellent manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Proficient reading, writing, and spoken English.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Proficient use of smartphones and maintenance apps.
• Strong verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and high cleanliness/presentation standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform general maintenance and repairs in residential units and common areas.
• Diagnose and repair drywall, flooring, plumbing, electrical, locks, and carpentry.
• Assist with unit turnovers, including painting and appliance repairs.
• Maintain appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the property.
• Respond to work orders and maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
• Communicate effectively with property management and rental teams.
• Document all work performed via smartphone or maintenance systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain tools, supplies, and equipment safely.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Do

The Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in supporting the property management team by ensuring the physical integrity, cleanliness, and functionality of the community. This position is responsible for diagnosing issues, completing repairs, and delivering exceptional service in a timely and professional manner. The ideal candidate is proactive, technically skilled, and committed to upholding our core values.

Requirements

• Perform general maintenance and repairs in residential units and common areas.
• Diagnose and repair problems involving:
  • Drywall (repair and installation)
  • Flooring (installing and repairing)
  • Plumbing and electrical systems
  • Locks and carpentry
• Assist with unit turnovers, including painting and appliance repairs.
• Maintain the overall appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the property.
• Respond to work orders and maintenance requests promptly and professionally.
• Communicate effectively with the property management and rental teams.
• Document all work performed via smartphone or designated property management systems.
• Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance.
• Maintain tools, supplies, and equipment in a safe and organized manner.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

• Work performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Exposure to cold, heat, noise, and moving machinery/equipment.
• May be required to work after hours or on-call as needed.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, crawling, and reaching above shoulder height.
• Ability to work at heights up to 25 ft.
• Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including masks, gloves, goggles, and ear protection.
