Job summary

StepForward is seeking a Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of building, equipment and grounds upkeep tasks. The role includes carpentry, painting, plumbing and limited electrical work, as well as scheduling daily maintenance and assisting contractors.

You will respond to emergencies on-call, handle chemicals safely, and maintain a clean, safe environment around facilities. Some meetings and trainings support ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required; vocational/technical training in building trades preferred.
  • At least 1 year of experience in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing or electrical trades.
  • Ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely and follow safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Install or repair building and grounds maintenance tasks including carpentry and painting.
  • Perform plumbing and limited electrical work to fix minor malfunctions.
  • Move furniture, schedule maintenance work orders and support contractors as needed.
  • Respond to emergencies on an on-call basis and ensure safe chemical storage.
  • Maintain safe, clean facility grounds and assist with equipment upkeep.

Job description

Purpose of Classification:The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of maintenance and repair work for the agency including buildings, equipment and grounds.Essential Functions:The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.Installs or repairs building, equipment and grounds maintenance duties, plastering, installing floor tile and carpet, painting inside and outside of facilities, carpentry, plumbing, and electrical; maintains tools and machinery in good condition and uses all tools carefully and as instructed.Performs some carpentry functions in alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, doors, windows, screens, wood fixtures and furniture; installs equipment and performs limited electrical work to repair malfunctions of a minor nature.Performs some plumbing work to ensure the general maintenance and repair of toilets, fixtures, kitchen sinks and opening of clogged drains.Moves furniture and other related equipment to new location; prioritizes maintenance request form(s), and prepares the daily schedule in which the maintenance work order will be completed.Provide support as determined by the Facilities Manager to contracted movers, plumbers and Heating Ventilation Air Conditioner (HVAC) contractors.Responds appropriately to emergencies on an "on call" basis; safely handles and effectively uses various cleaning and sanitation chemicals in compliance with federal, state and local safety, health and environmental regulations to prevent problems associated with chemical handling; ensures chemicals are safely stored away and out of the reach of children.Provides a safe and clean environment on facility grounds by removing all sources of potential danger including landscaping (cut branches, etc.) and potential predators (deer, cats, rabbits, snakes, etc.).Attends meetings, conferences, trainings and workshops for professional Development and to obtain best practices in the accounting and Agency areas to increase job knowledge, skills and abilities.Additional Functions:Performs other related duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma or a GED required; supplemented by vocational/technical training in the building and machine trades; supplemented by one year of experience working in carpentry, HVAC, plumbing or electrical trades or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.Additional Requirements/Conditions of Employment:Successful results of pre and continued employment assessments including fingerprinting, drug testing, medical examinations and background check(s).Step Forward is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
